Well this is a first. But gives an idea of what can happen.

Car changes lanes into a Spyder. Shows front and rear camera on the car.

I am sure many opinions on this but seems this could have been avoided.....

Be safe out there!

not picking sides but looks like the spyder may have speed up or lost control from the rear view of the camera?

Hope all are ok..

Looks like the Spyder rider didn't see the guy pulling in front of him until it was too late. He may not have sped up, but he certainly didn't slow down. I would lay fault on both of them. Car driver for pulling out. Probably never looked or saw the Spyder. May not have used his turn signal. Spyder rider for not paying attention. We all know our Spyders will stop on a dime if necessary. It looked like there was plenty of room for the Spyder to slow down, but cameras make it look like there is more distance between vehicles than there actually is.

I have installed dash cams in both of my vehicles. I am looking to add a front & rear dash cam to my Spyder this year
Just in case something were to happen.

To me, the car is definitely in the wrong. He obviously did not check to see if the way was clear before he changed lanes. Whether or not the guy on the Spyder could have slowed down is a mute point.

I wonder if that cop was after the Spyder guy or someone else?

Looked to me like that white car with the lights may have already been chasing the Spyder.

I'm pretty sure there was no cop car in the vid... just a white 4WD with a roof rack who put his hazards on as he pulled across into the right lane to render aid. There's certainly been no Police reports about their being a car on the scene as it happened. :sour::sour:

Still, as mentioned in the earlier thread, in Aust the onus is on driver of the vehicle changing lanes to change lanes safely - he obviously didn't, cos the Spyder got hit!! But it doesn't look as tho the Spyder Ryder was speeding either, there was no flash from the fixed speed camera aimed at them & if he had been speeding there almost certainly woulda been a flash as it took a pic to go with the infringement notice!! Possibly the driver of the vehicle wasn't even aware the Spyder was there, cos for some stupid reason here in Aus our 'dipped beam' lights are low wattage globes down alongside the frunk where North American Spyders get to put their fog lights, so unless they know to look down low, drivers of other vehicles rarely see the mandatory ON lights & therefore little attention is drawn to the Spyder - I do most of my riding with my main beams on high during the day so the pair of lights up under the windscreen are lit brightly, and even with bright lights up there where they'd expect to see them, there's very few days that pass without some turkey pulling out in front under dangerous circumstances because they simply didn't see/register that there was a Spyder there!!

Regardless, after originally posting the vid & getting a whole heap of 'less than supportive' comments, it seems the vid at DashCamsAust has since been taken down, supposedly by the vehicle owner (but it's everywhere else anyway?!) & it sounds like the driver of the vehicle has been issued with an infringement notice for something along the lines of 'making an un-safe lane change resulting in injury'. The local news suggests the rider received minor injuries in the form of road rash & some bruising, altho it is a little hard to track down info on this incident now the main link had been removed.

But like so much of this sort of stuff, even with the camera footage, there's gonna be the Driver's version, the Rider's version, whatever version the media beats it up as, whatever the courts/judiciary make of it, and the truth.... the last one being something the rest of us will probably never get to hear or see!!

Interesting set of opinions, everybody has one. I'd like to know why the Spyder rider was pulling away from the following traffic at such a high rate, is it possible that the car changing lanes did look and see the Spyder a good distance behind when he started the lane change. I would say the Spyder driver had plenty of time to slow down and let the car in front of him. This could have very well turned into a matter of "dead right". Right or wrong, it's always better to avoid to an accident, then to argue about who was right or wrong.

Lessons to be learned.

One of the reasons I joined Spyderlovers was to take advice upon board from experienced spyder riders.
A quote I have taken from the thread Do's and Do Nots "Just stay alert to road hazards (your Spyder has a low-clearance), and don't trust any other vehicles -- as they are ALL out to run into you (at least that is the mentality you need to have)" by Illinois Boy
And another quote by Illinois Boy "Ride often, safe and aware!
The quotes above are logged into my head every time I take my spyder out for a ride.
Just watched the footage of the spyder crash above and I hope the spyder rider has a full recovery from this accident.
I personally would like to see the spyder crash footage incorporated into the "Do's and Do Nots" thread so that newbies like myself can see an example of what could happen with helpful advice from your Bob Denmans, Akaspydermans, Blueknights911, Chupacas, Prairies, OJ UKs, Cruzr Joe, etc on riding safely for beginners.:chat:

Hi Darren,
If there's ever ANY doubt...

Yes; they ARE trying to kill you! nojoke
Always leave space for whatever bone-headed maneuver that they try to lay down in front of you!
