• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spewing gas!

its not my intention to sue anyone.
Yes, it is a LOT of money to spend on a bike, but I purchased it from a dealer, and assume,(my bad), that they would only sell certified units with no problems....again....huge, expensive-lesson learned! But really, who would I have had check the bike out?? They are the dealer!
I did research online about can am and problems......hardly anything pops up.
its not until you put the two words "gas smell" do things pop up as an issue.
i have switched to a local dealer as the original one is an hour away, and I really don't have much faith in them since they sold me a machine that smells like it does, and insist those are "normal smells after a ride".

You are on the right track. Hang in there.:yes:

Yay, yay, yay!
I got a call from a bigwig at BRP today and they are gonna get with the dealer and get that machine fume free!
i also found out that I have the "best" warranty until May of next year!! Woohoo!
Im curious as to why the original dealer never said a word about any warranty.....they said it was "as is"........lol they also say gas smell is normal, so.
waiting to get an appointment.....dealer is trying to work me in somewhere.

Good news indeed. Sometimes, it's all about the dealer. :yikes: or :firstplace:

Great to hear they will work to solve the issues. One other thing that you may consider to help with the heat issues. consider getting a cat bypass from Pitbull Powersports. The catalitic converter is located right under the gas tank and a big source of heat to the gas tank. It will also boost your Horsepower and fuel mileage.

I was eyeballing one of those.
i don't want to sink another dime into it until I'm confident they can resolve that hrorrid gas smell......once it's resolved, gonna start Farkling again.
i put on a Baja Ron sway bar with the Heim links, then has a laser alignment. She runs like the wind, just has smell issues. Lol

Wish you all the luck in the world and truly hope BRP can find a solution that works on your bike to get rid of the fumes.

That said, I have not had a SINGLE 998 spyder in my shop other than a few post recall 13 RTs that did not have gas fumes when hot. Just nature of the beast and the fuel system. It was corrected for the 1330s and updated in the 2013 RT heat recall but all the others have been left to fume.

Kudos to BRP for stepping up to the plate.

A big raspberry to the dealer from whom you bought it.

The gas fumes are so strong it makes me nauseated......it's like I'm riding a gas pump.
i can deal with a few gas fumes, but this is more than anyone should have to deal with.
I get raw strong gas fumes at highway speeds.....that can't be normal.
Im hoping the problem can be remedied!

Over a month....

Hi everyone! Was just reading this thread & noticed it's been over a month since BRP said they would get things straightened out. Just wondering how everything turned out. Fume Free???

Spewing gas

DMPSAM, The canister and related components should be covered under the emission control warranty. I might suggest calling BRP and getting the phone number of the local BRP rep. Talk with the rep and have a meeting at the dealer's site. The education will put everyone on level ground.

Good Luck

Being a Colorado Native I would guess there would be a sterling and stout hearted Gentleman that would

come to the aid of a Damsel in duress! How bout it guys? Who will be the first?

BRP fixed the problem thru a local dealer.
I am under warranty until May 2017, my local dealer was awesome in taking care of this issue. It was a vent hose that was completely pinched causing pressure to build.
My local dealer got the bike in immediately and had it back to me in just a couple of days! They also got me the new panels that let more air in. Woohoo! My new dealer ROCKS!
I have since put plenty of miles on, I'm still plenty nervous when taking that gas cap off....but haven't had any more issues.

Its amazing to me that the original dealer says that the gas smell is "normal" and the new dealer fixes the problem and all is well. Pretty scary when you think of the complexity of our 25K machines . We as non professional mechanics and enthusiast rely on the Professional dealers to tell us if there is a problem or at least evaluate a suspected problem.

I am really glad you had the problem corrected, really could have been a much different out come.
