There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Speedometer error??

Everybody is reporting that the speedometer is reading high...
As I understand it; that means that the tire is spinning too fast (making it read high), for a given mph.
If you "Grow" the tire; it'll spin a bit slower...
By slowing the tire down; it'll be reporting a mph to the speedometer that is more in line with what the bike's true speed is.
:opps: I wish that I knew how to explain it better... can somebody help?? :dontknow:

So i call BRP they say got to talk with dealer to talk to tech dept........¿! Start of a run-a-round i feel. So PLZ, EVERYONE reading this CALL BRP! Get the answer & share here. Thx

Did you read what I quoted from the UN and US regs? The Spyder speedo is well within the legal requirements. I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hades they will change it.

:agree: If it's within the legal limits of accuracy that is required; don't sit holding your breath, waiting for them to fix something, that they'll tell you was never broke in the first place. :banghead:

They've always been off..and the faster you go.. the more off they are. Maybe 1-2 MPH up to 35... then 3-5 up to 80.
Best speed I hit on my old 2008 GS was 128 on the speedo... but Garmin said 120-121.

This is pretty common. Keeps you on the safe side of error.

I've found that both of my Spyders and Infiniti run about 3 miles under my various GPS systems I've used. I've also found that the mileage counts properly on both, so the speedometers are deliberately set to allow us to a few miles over the limit without going a few miles over the limit.

I also found it does even up around 200mph, I agree, but then it gets all screwy again when I get near the sound barrier.

I've had about 2mph or so difference on every motorcycle I've ever owned and most cars, too. My Spyder shows me going 70mph and I'm actually going 68. Same with my wife's Lexus RX350. On the opposite side I had a Honda Civic back in the '70s that would show me going 50mph while I was actually going 58 (on radar).

That being said, my Toyota Camry hybrid shows exactly the speed I'm going, according to my GPS.

But most vehicles have a couple or so mph difference of their actual speed. It's not something I worry about.

Speed Difference

Your speedometer should be two to three slower than the actual reading. The speedometer are set by the european standard. This goes for automobiles also.

Well I have to say, living in the UK, driving a French Citroen + my F3-S and having owned and driven 2x Volvos, a Toyota, a Mits, two Vauxhalls, a Ford, a Lambretta (), a Norton or three, three Kawasakis, three Yamahas, a Spyder RS-S, a Triumph Street Triple, a BMW and a Saab, ALL of their speedos read high. Typically around 75 mph indicated at 70 mph.

Call BRP about this?
Sorry.. but that seems excessive.

Just like every other MC and car on the road, the speedometer reads a bit high to keep it within industry guidelines and federal/national law. They cannot read too slow. Can you imagine the problems if you thought you were going 65 and were actually going 72?
Much better to have it read a bit fast.
If you want more accuracy than the stock speedometer provides, I'd suggest a good GPS.... that's the only way to be more accurate... due to the variables mentioned in this thread (tire size, etc.).

Good luck.

That's not a runaround. Why would we call BRP for something that's normal on virtually all vehicles made for highway use?

Minimum speed limits

So nice day out today I'm a bit miffed at this speedo error and looking to enjoying the good weather :doorag:Low & behold i git lit up by police for going too slow! :helpsmilie:Interstate minimum 40mph, so I thought i was doing at-least, granted the officer could be having a bad day too. But legally pulled me over informed me i was doing 35 and was a danger (slow lane or not) on the interstate. No ticket just a warning:yes:But should impress the problems this presents.:banghead::popcorn: Have dealer informed & looking into will inspect tomorrow when I get a front tire replaced. Already had planned out after spyderfest fyi. Now just the extra..
