However u wanna call it. I admit the spyder is first factory equipped gps vehicle & digital dash for me. But not my first ride maybe my analog self sm happy with not knowing. But having conflicting info aint good on one ride. & yes the too slow is fact. But im not in a rush like rest of world. Might have thought i didnt have endorsement cuz he was ready to be done after he saw my license. & i asked "How slow was i?" Further info my '68 f100 3speed keeps better speedo info So ya i have redneck issues. Fair enough

Why would you be traveling the minimum speed on the highway on a Spyder in any event? Did you have a mechanical problem? Then the emergency flashers should have been opersting. Or do you have a death wish, tempting someone to run over you from behind?

Please help me understand?

I don't think that we should be questioning anybody about HOW they ride... Would you like each and every one of YOUR choices brought into the spotlight?? :dontknow:

I'm still calling donkey donuts on this.

I have never, ever, ever heard of anyone getting pulled over for going too slow on a Spyder.

If it did happen the cop probably wondered if there was a mechanical problem for only going 40 mph... which would only be maybe 2 and at most 3 mph off on the Spyder odometer.

Or maybe the cop just wanted some of the donkey donuts? :roflblack:

Vehicle odometers are calibrated to be within legal standards and they err on the side of reading too fast as reading too slow is illegal. This isn't going to change, nor does it need to. Going 3 mph slower than the odometer reads is also safer. The notion that one could get rear ended for going 3 mph under the odometer reading is far fetched.

Been a fun thread though.....:doorag:

It seems that when I keep up with traffic ( hyway or byway) that the speedo on the :spyder2:is reading 5 to 8 MPH fast. I have to get my wifes Garmin to check it out.

Have any of you noticed this???

PS: Yah I know that 72 is really 65-----I'm figuring this in.
My 2014 RT Limited is the same but not to that degree. I've noticed about a 1 to 3 MPH difference in the digital readout and the GPS indicated speed. Nobody runs the speedlimit anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most motorcycle speedometers are not dead on anyway. When the wind is hitting you so hard you can't hold onto the handlebars, I would venture to say you are running a tad too fast. [emoji39] [emoji39] [emoji39] [emoji39] [emoji39] rofl ICMUS

Laser is probably most accurate... but trust me... you don't wanna find out! :doorag:

Saving $$$ not only for an F3... but for the tickets it will come with.... ;)

Pissed off redneck (should explain enough) and (nothing to do, all day to get there) handicap situation so not tempting fate, & not @ event, back home where cops & roads suck. It's not about what is legal acceptable variance but I WANT MY BIKE RIGHT! My $$$$ ,my life on bike not some jerk off claiming what is acceptable. Better understood now? I've had my share of speeding tickets on everything before the spyder. I've learned...

If the perception of error is bugging you that much; swap over to a 215/60-16 tire on the next change.
That seems to bring the speedometer more into line...

Three pages on this, now that's entertaining ;)

So your speedo is off according to your GPS, funny because my GPS will show I'm doing 1mph to 3mph just sitting still. I've always wonder what number was right, the GPS or the speedo but either way doesn't matter that much to me. Guess we could get one of you cops to shoot us and see but then again is the radar gun accurate? :dontknow:

Well I started this thread a few weeks ago and on our trip Bishop, solvang, Santa Cruz area----- we used our GPS to check the speedo. It was only off by 2-3 MPH!!!! SOOOO shut my mouth.
I guess traffic is always running 5-8 MPH over:dontknow: Just dosen't seem to be as much in the cars.

I never do less than 5mph over the speed limit anyway so I am covered. BTW I have many, many friends in law enforcement and they all agree that the very minimum to get pulled over is 5mph over the limit. Most state police in PA won't look twice at you unless you are going at least 7-10MPH over the limit. Their primary concern is the folks doing 60mph in a 40mph or going 85mph on the 65mph turnpike.

Disclaimer: Everything said here is anecdotal so your results may vary.

Regarding exceeding speed limits, an old cop friend's slogan was, "nine you're fine...ten you're mine."

Small towns are notorious for giving out tickets to fund their pockets. I have gotten pulled over 3 times an given tickets saying I was doing way more than the actual speed.
The last time, about a year ago I got a ticket for 87 in a 60 when I had my cruise set at 63.
There was a piece on the news about this the other night. It is impossible to fight one of these tickets.

I don't know of any state where it's impossible to fight a ticket. I've fought them in many states... and 'won'.
By 'won'... I mean that I was able to pay more and have the points removed and the ticket expunged from my record.
It's all a money game that has little to do with 'safety'. They love to target out-of-staters as they figure we'll never fight the tickets.

I joined this group:
http://www.motorists.org/
As a member, they'll pay your ticket if you cannot get a deferment using their forms, etc...

Using their vast knowledge and information, I've fought 3 tickets and 'won' each of them. Even had an Indiana judge call me directly after filing all of my discovery requests. They basically don't want to do all the legal work and tie up their system over a silly ticket... so they'll offer you a deferment... all you usually have to do is pay a bit more and go 6 months without another ticket. Some states allow you to take an online test and receive a deferment.

Since getting my RT.... I've received no tickets... they were all done on my GS. I was a bit crazier back then.

Something I remember as I contemplate getting an F3.....;):doorag:
