Speedometer error??

It seems that when I keep up with traffic ( hyway or byway) that the speedo on the :spyder2:is reading 5 to 8 MPH fast. I have to get my wifes Garmin to check it out.

Have any of you noticed this???

I've noticed a 1 or 2 mph variance between the speedometer, at various radar set-ups that display speeds...

Not enough to worry about.

Ya got me confused??? Are you saying this is true with ALL Spyders??? If so, why doesn't BRP correct the issue?? does this affect the odometer reading also??

Yea, mine is 2 - 3 mph different than the garmin. Have read that most other riders have noticed this. You can correct this with a tire size change.

I have no idea what my MPG are. Still breaking in the 1330 motor and havent even tried to calculate the MPG. Honestly dont care-----My bikes are not known for thier great fuel milage( V-max and Valkryie )

Thanks for reminding me to check my speedo with a GPS after putting on a different tire.
With stock tire mine was 3 miles an hour off when doing 70. Speedo would say 70 but GPS was saying 67.

No---- just saying that MY 2014 RTS seemed to have a speedo that was reading to high and wanted to know if others on this great forum had the same problem. That's all.

Makes you wonder if there is a conspiracy with motorcycle makers to do this so people don't speed as much

It's not really an issue that can be easily controlled at ANY level... :shocked:
Your tires change their diameters as they wear...

...adding inaccuracy to the speedometer and odometer readings.

By the way; they're off in your cars and trucks as well...

Same result for me. I use a Michelin HydroEdge 215-60/R15.

I agree with Bob's comment. Wife's car is closest to GPS, my car next in accuracy, Spyder off the most.

Being over the true speed is pretty normal from my experience. My Spyder is off by approximately 2 mph at 60 mph which is better than some of my other rides. My RS Midnight Venture was off by a good 5-6 mph over 60-65 and above mph. My Wing was off and my cars and trucks have all been off by various amounts. I believe by law they can't be under stated, in other words can't be going faster than what the speedo states when manufactured.
Isn't there something called a speedo healer that can be used to correct it? Not sure if it works for all kinds of vehicles.
Consequently mpg is always a little suspect.

My speedo always indicated 2-3 mph high (at 70 indicated was actually 67-68 compared to both watch and Garmin). After switching to General Altra 175R65/14 on front, my indicated speed was pretty well on at 70 mph compared to Garmin and watch. Forgot that I also switched the rear to General Altra 205R60/15.

I've ridden 2 wheelers for a long time and noticed my actual speed was always 3 - 5 miles slower than what the speedometer was reading. My 2014 consistently shows 2 -3 mph less than what my GPS shows. I don't think it matters that much, unless the "black and white" bearing down on you thinks differently!!!!!!
