• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Thanks for the info. What I'm thinking of doing is getting one of those cut and hiding it on the bike somewhere accessible, and then hiding the cloned chip key inside one of the trunks like maybe behind the battery cover, or maybe under the seat under some of the plastic. I can use the non-chip key to get into the trunk and then retrieve the real key to drive with.

I hid a spare key inside the floorboard on my 'wing and carried a hex key in the unlocked storage pocket. I figured if someone found the hex key and decided to look for the spare key they'd probably be caught by the time they would have found it!

Of course, there's always the chance one would do the same thing my brother did. He locked his keys inside his pickup at the gas station pump so I had to go to his house and find a spare and take it to him. As soon as he opened the door he remembered there was a spare key behind the bumper! :opps: :opps:
 
I do the same thing... keep a dummy key accessible for when I throw the Spyder key in my jacket pocket...
...and then throw my jacket; in the frunk! :shocked: :gaah:
I'm also going to track down a couple of spare "live" keys too! :thumbup:
 
Ok you win I bought one of those keys just to test it out and it works great I got it cut and programed for 10 bucks total of 20 bucks for a new key

Dealer wanted $43.00 for an non-programmed key, $85.00 to program another. Two blanks in my mailbox from lockpicks.com for $21.00, local Ace Hardware cut both for $4.00 and programmed one for free. Non-programmed key will open all locks including frunk and seat. It will bring dash to life but will not start engine. Hid it under Tupperware. Hid programmed key in locked compartment. Saved $100.00...:yes::yes::yes: Think I'll go out tonight:cheers::cheers: Short time in the Spyder world but I'm sure getting great information here :bowdown::bowdown:

I called a number of local hardware stores. This was the only one I found that programs chipped keys in my area. Not sure if all Ace Hardware stores have the 'magic box' and computer program. They didn't think it would work and were surprised when it did because the Can Am Spyder and blank key weren't listed. Programmed key works fine. :clap::clap::clap:
 
Only BRP can provide a new key for your Spyder. Your dealer BRP technicien will use BUDS software to program your new key. Some informations have to be store in the key chip.

That's pricey, but actually not out of line. A True Value hardware store nearby charges $70 for programmed auto keys. Since they didn't have the Spyder key and the clerk was unsure about how to charge or if the boss would really approve, she cloned mine for nothing. I went elsewhere to get them cut. Cutting can be touchy. I had to do some extra filing on one of mine to get it to work. All of them are a bit rough in operating the ignition lock.

Even if you bought 1 key elsewhere, you have to program this new key with Buds systems. And BRP programs only key sold by the dealer. It's the case here in Canada. So good luck.

But, you can do business with this guy in HI if you want. If he lost your key, you are in big problem.
