• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spare Key Fiasco ....

My wife somehow misplaced ( lost ) her Spyder key somewhere between the parking lot and the inside of the Italian restaurant on our N.Georgia mountain run last week. Obviously , her spare was in my desk drawer at home. So finally got my daughter to bring my spare to the hotel the next morning.

Anyway ..... called dealer after we got back - Had to order a blank key - Roughly $ 50.00. When I went to pick up the key yesterday, the Dealer said they couldn't cut the key because it was so thick - Went to 4 locksmiths / hardware stores - No one wanted to take the liability of messing up a $ 50.00 key blank. Finally found someone to do it 2 hrs. later. Took it back to the dealer - Dealer couldn't find "RED" master key that they have to have to reprogram - Finally found "RED" master in their Polaris drawer. Then they have to reprogram all existing keys - But when they programmed the new one ... the old one wouldn't work and vice versa when they programmed my old key .. the new one wouldn't work. Finally, they figured it out. And yes, they try to do a good job , they basically say that there's so many things controlled by the modules. sensors etc. etc. that it's like working on the space shuttle. One not quite right thing can screw up many things.

Bottomline ...... Don't lose your key - Superglue it in the ignition and put a piece of black tape over the Mode button.:ohyea: Nobodys gonna steal it since it will take them a couple of hours to figure out where the mode button is and parking brake release. Or possibly put a " BAIT BIKE " sticker on it so they think the cops are standing by waiting for you to drive off.

Also ... was also told that there are a total limited # of lifetime key copies that can be made - 4 or something like that. After that you have to replace something like the switch, computer or knowing BRP probably the whole Spyder :shocked:.

Very nice ... but if I was a thief that did my "homework" and was aware of the IPS ... it's so pretty that it would stand out like a sore thumb. I think that I'm gonna securely duct tape a spare key to the inside frame or whatever under the oil check panel cover ... then wrap some black electrical tape around that to make it blend with the black frame. Make it to where it's a royal pain in the @ss to remove and that way I won't use it just for convenience. PLUS always remind myself ...... don't lose the original !:gaah:

P.S. I think I'm gonna make one like Lamonster that fits over the switch and looks like fake puke or a huge bird poo ........:roflblack: - Or maybe a fake switch cover that looks like a button that says " Lojack Activation "

I had a extra key made for my RS. As has beed discovered they all need to be run the "program" at the same to make them work. I was told, told, that up to four keys could be made at one time. If one of them was lost, it could be replaced. How True ????????
I was thinking about black taping one in the glove box( RT ). If you lock the handlebars, it will lock this part. It should cost less to buy a lid then a new ignigion switch. Electical problems with key being there ??

I'm curious to know if you were to permanently mount a key, secure & out of sight, near the ignition switch, could you then have non-chip blanks cut that would work? If so, you might be able to get replacements for just a few dollars each.

Just a thought...

Or you could get a non-chip spare key that will work to open the trunks, and lock your second chipped key away(front or back trunk).
You could tape the spare non-chip key to the inside of the front oil tank cover in case of emergency---to unlock the trunk and retrieve your chipped key.

This is what I did. Had locksmith cut a non-chip key. It opens the rear storage and that's where I keep my spare. Carry the non-chip key in my back pocket or my luggage if traveling.

I had the same thought, so I had a non-chip key made and you can start the Spyder up using it. But on my RT-S, the chipped key has to be touching the other key kind of head to head flat. Oh, my non-chipped key was about $10. I keep the spare chipped key in the rrunk and the spare non-chipped key on the back of the tupperware covering the oil stick.

Just my way.

Trying to figure this out .... so if you have a non-chipped key in the ignition but have to have the chipped key right next to it , why not use the spare chipped key to start it in the first place since the non-chipped key is worthless without the chipped key next to it ? Maybe I'm missing something.:dontknow:

So what happens if you lose the non-chipped key out of your back pocket or something happens to your luggage ? You can't get to your spare without forcing open / tearing up your rear storage compartment. Still seems to me that the best option is to securely tape the spare chipped key somewhere hidden up inside the frame beneath the oil check panel .... but that's just my thought process ;). You can get to it no matter what. I'd also put the key in a small baggie first before you tape it to keep it from getting wet , dirty or anything that might affect the chip , keep it from rusting or whatever.

Non Chip Key

The non chip key is a good idea. The non chip will open the back trunk on the RT & RT-S. Keep spare chip in trunk hidden. Store non chip in mini trunk in front of seat. Liner comes right out. Tape non chip under liner. Non chip is thin won't show. If found by unauthorized will not start machine. Time is against thief. Looking for chip key is time consuming.
Having trouble finding blank. Locksmith could not find on nor could his distributer.
