• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spare Fuel

Wasn't there an acknowledgement by Reda, that they had a problem at one time with their caps?
As I seem to recall; it was a pretty long time ago. :dontknow:

Hmmmm. I live in Maine during the summer and ride throughout the state but have never been so far into the woods that I couldn't find a service station when I needed one. Where do you plan on riding if I might ask?
West road 4 wheelers in Jackman Maine several years ago. I didn't know if the rest of the state was the same. We will leave Quebec city through Jackman to Bangor. Next day to Lubec and down coast to Freeport. Then across to MNT Washington.

I agree with Firefly I had a Reda and it not only stunk up my saddlebag but you get a gas bath when you use it. I haven't carried gas since early 2013 and I've never run out. You should look at your Route and get a feel for where gas will be available. There may be areas where you have to gas up at half a tank because you're going into an isolated area and the next fuel may be beyond your range. Use Google maps and do the aerial view of towns and you can see if they have fuel available.
We have planned our route but if we see a sign for World's Largest Ball of Yarn or Biggest colony of Jack-a-lope, we want to have the option.

So you have a 2015 Rt? You should be good for 200 miles I believe..... really shouldn't need to carry gas. Buy a AAA or other membership and carry the card with you. There are also usually good Samaritans that will help you out....

We are 20 year members with AAA. When we were in Jackman Maine ,several years ago , there were a lot of areas with no cell signal. I guess just being a little over cautious, but have extra space in the trailer so it's not a big deal to carry along.

I carry a 750 ml Sauza Tequila bottle ( it's rectangular in shape so it fits nicely ) full of gas. Not only doesn't it leak it doesn't even smell at the cap...... They make liquor bottles to carry alcohol which is ( like gas ) much thinner than water etc. , so the seals they use are much better, also won't degrade ( at least mine hasn't after 4 yrs ). Now 750ml will only get me about 13 miles +/- , but that's all I'll ever need. You would need bigger bottles and at least two ....... And Yes I know they are glass .....thank you ........ Mike

I don't carry any extra gas with me, but if I do, I am going to use Mike's method. It may not be better, but emptying the bottles should provide some fun compared to just buying a Rotopax!

Do not carry spare fuel in your ride. Do not use plastic, metal or any other container to transport fuel more then a few miles from a gas station, its a recipe for disaster. If you are on the road just gas up more frequently. When I'm doing a road trip the 1/2 way mark tells me to stop for gas.
Remember....its not the leaking you are concerned with.....its the vapor. Vapor goes BOOM.

Plan your trip, never let it run low when you are in unfamiliar areas. I also have Good Sams roadside and they fill run fuel out to me if I get stuck.

I carry a Rotopax 1 gallon laid flat in the right hand saddle bag of my RT. If you get the Rotopax don't worry about the vapor it's not a problem, they do say if you are riding where the altitude varies a lot you need to vent it once a day.

VAPOR

If I can't ( and no one else has either ) I doubt there is any vapor..... Mike

I used Read years ago and had problems with vapors as well as the spouts failed. I called them and the sent me brad new redesigned cans that are vapor proof as well as new designed spouts. If you have Read laying around that you don't like jut call and get them replaced!!

I won't trust Reda after I had one leak and cause a mess. Turns out they had a run of 'bad' caps. To me this was unacceptable. The whole reason for spending the $$ on their special tank was because it specifically would not leak or smell.

I only every ran out of gas once on my GS on a trip to the Grand Canyon.
Not an issue with the F3.
