• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Something else I didn't Know

Hello follow lovers, (that didn't sound right) fellow :spyder2:lovers

I guess you have to learn as you go along. I have been having all kinds of nightmares what this could be. I started seeing drops of oil on the garage floor and on the left hand saddlebag. I have my:spyder: sitting on a pickup truck floor liner so nothing gets on the concrete. I worried with it checking the oil first thought didn't have enough then thought I added too much. Did what the manual says let it idle for 30 seconds then check it. Barely showing on dip stick. Added a little came in from riding and oil dip stick showed way past full. I finally bit the bullet and called my dealer yesterday. He said bring it in this morning. I was waiting when they opened a 9am. They got me right in and took no time at all and I was"ready to go". I guess no matter how long you have your:spyder:you will keep on learning about your:spyder:. OK some of you are way ahead of me. The problem was there is a "O ring" on the dip stick that is suppose to be up at the top by the threads. If you are not careful when you unscrew the dip stick the O ring works it self down the threads and if you don't watch it, it will fall off on the ground when you check your oil. That's what happened to me, thus when the oil got hot it would come out around the dip stick. We live and learn but I don't know if I am going to live that long. This info may help someone else.

Those o-rings are a pain in the rear. I never had any trouble on my 2010 but on my 2013 every time I checked the oil it would slide down to the lowest thread and I would have to get my fingers all oily pushing it back up. It never did fall completely off.

Here's what I do..!!

because it's such a pain when your checking oil, I take it off till I have my oil level set then re-install the o-ring. It makes it easier to screw the dip stick in and out while checking. But you do learn these little things as you go along...

I solved my slippery ring problem with some I found in my tool box made for water hoses. They are O rings, not the flat type, fatter than OEM's, and don't slip off. No idea if these are still made as they're something I've had for a few years.

Don't laugh .......................... if the O ring keeps sliding down .................... turn it over and put it back on and it will stay up. :hun:

I SAID DON'T LAUGH, it worked on mine.

It also probably wouldn't hurt to match it up to something in your local hardware store, and keep a couple of emergency spares in your toolbox...

It works. Why the heck!!!!

I see no logical reason it should work but it does. Just flip the o-ring over. Wow how easy can that be.

Flipping O-Ring

The flipping o-ring is a big pain in the butt. Mine won't stay on the dipstick no matter how many times you flip the rat. But who wants to hang around with a dip stick?:roflblack: :roflblack:

It would probably stick if it had a half groove on the dipstick for it to mate with.

I'm going to have to try that, I always have to push the o-ring back to the top of the dip stick and get my fingers oily. Thanks for the suggestion.

OIl

WalMart has cheap rubber gloves that you can buy. May be a hundred in a box. Left and right are the same. You can use only one then throw it away so one box =200 glove. there is one thing, someone said to turn the O ring over. When it falls on the ground how do you tell which is top and which is bottom?

There is a bit more in the manual and a very important part is to check the oil level with the engine up to operating temperature. You can not just start a cold Rotax and let it idle for 30 seconds then check the oil!

Just wanted to clear that up in case someone reads your post and assumes wrong how to check the oil.
