There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Some paint came off

So I was at the car was the other day doing a final wash of the year.. When I was knocking some of the bugs off the front of the bike I seen a black stop appear just under the hood between the ailerons. I stopped to check it out an it was missing some paint about half dollar size. I stopped right then an didn't finish the wash. This happened on Sunday afternoon. I called my dealer on Tuesday an talk to the shop manager. He said for me to email him some pictures an he would get with BRP. He called e back yesterday ( thursday )an said the BRP told him it looked like I had hit something with the bike an that they could see yellow scuff marks..

To sum it all up.. Has anyone had any trouble with their paint popping off?? I am gonna lad some pictures but will have to do it with my phone...

I have 2008 (purchased new) and after a year there were a few spots where the paint was rubbed off where one panel was a close/tight fit with another panel, and in another spot the seat rubbed the panel; but, no popping off of paint.

Here are the pictures.. These are not the best. There are still bugs all over the front an makes the pictures look lie the front is all chipped up, but its not. I am gonna get the bike out an clean off the front real good an get some better ones.

Question: Do YOU see any yellow paint in the chip?? Is there any damage to the bodywork where that paint fell off?
If you caught something with the airdam; then it would be you nickel to fix it... :gaah:
But if there's no damage, and no yellow paint... then there's hope!
I'd go right to the dealer and have them verify what is in fact there...

That is verry strange since my color is intergrated into the tupperware and when it got scratched the color carreyed through?

It looked like a yellow spot on the right hand side picture. Just to the left of where the paint came off. I do not like how you cannot see the front end when parking or coming upon those curb stone things you find in parking lots.

Not saying you hit anything--only you know that for sure--but it looks like a yellow spot to me.

Keep us posted.

That location would be very hard to hit and damage without damaging other bodywork that sticks out farther. I'm not saying it is impossible, but it would be very difficult...especially without leaving a visible scar on the plastic. The pattern of paint is atypical for bad paint adhesion to the primer, which usually shows handprints or has smooth edges. It is more indicative of washing with too high a pressure or being too close when using a pressure washer. If the paint has poor adhesion, or the area was damaged in any way, lifting the paint is even easier that way. As to any yellow streaks, bugs leave them quite commonly, so try some bug solvent and see if they come off readily with prepsol and a bug spnoge. If not, it may well be paint. You can go over the paint loss in detail with your dealer, and may even wish to have a good bodyshop offer an opinion first, to possibly help your argument, but in the end you may not win this one anyway. In the future, try to avoid pressure cleaning. It is hard on paint!

If its your dime maybe time for some custom paint work or an oversized bra :roflblack:
Just my crazy sense of humor no offence intended.

The yellow streak is dried bug juice. I am getting ready to clean it all off then I will post another picture. There is no damaged what so ever on it.

High pressure washer

I have always been leery of using high pressure washers at the car wash. It seems to me that water could get forced into places it doesn't belong. Also, the high pressure could make a stone chip bigger and worse.

The author of this thread may very well benefit from comments that are considered adverse to his position in that his true adversary will in all likelihood come up with the same. (I approve of this message).

IMO, best to take to the dealer so they can see it first hand and take their own pictures, especially since they basically act as your ambassador when talking to BRP warranty claims. That's just my .02.

Oh, and just to play devil's advocate, say you did have a rock chip there that you didn't see cause it was covered with bug guts; I could so see that auto pressure washer doing that sort of damage. And I also bet that if you mention pressure washer and paint coming off to BRP in the same breath they will certainly not cover that via warranty.

Just say'n

On the bright side, if there is one, least you don't have to worry about it rusting while you wait to find out about repairs.

Oh, and regarding, "Has anyone had any trouble with their paint popping off??" .. on mine thus far haven't had that issue thankfully.

Good luck; hope you get it resolved.

So if you DO use a pressure washer...
You don't!
Let's all hope for the bewt now, and Good Luck!

I understand what your saying about hi pressure car washes an pressure washers, but you gotta know this car wash... It's not really worth the time to use it but it all that's here. I really don't think that there is enough pressure at it to blow good paint off.. I have washed cars there before that have been repainted an it didn't bother them.. Factory ain't should be a whole lot better then that. If BRP's paint is know better then that then they need to find a new formula...
