Sold item- How do you mark a FS: advert as SOLD?

How do you mark "sold" in your listing?

In the centre of the screen just above your first post in the FS: thread should be a button marked 'Thread Tools' - click on that, select 'Mark this thread as sold', which will be the last option on the drop down list (but only in the 'For Sale by Owner' section' ) and you're done - the thread is marked as Sold & Closed at the same time! :thumbup:

If i have any complaints about this site ....it's the unmark for sale items that are not marked as SOLD. Is there a way to clean up the multiple items that are not for sale? Say that an item is marked for sale and then automatically drops after 30 days? Is that possible?

Possibly, but not necessarily easily or without risk to everything.... We'd have to get someone to create the coding, test it, make sure it integrates with a fully operational system, and then actually implement it on the live platform software (which would entail a cost and could entail some or even possibly extended 'system down-time' :sour: ) and expose the Forum to all the associated risks for errors, glitches, & maybe even 'undocumented features' appearing where they're least expected &/or stuffing the whole thing up!! AND by adding 'little features' like that to the platform or even just making 'apparently minor' changes or tweaks to the platform, the task of keeping the place working smoothly & up to date increases exponentially; with a further by product of having any of those 'unique to us' mods being that whenever there's an 'authorised update' or 'fix' to be applied, it'll significantly increase the risk of down-time or even platform failures, data losses, &/or unreliable/unpredictable performance! :gaah:

So yeah, even if we leave the 'who's gonna pay for it' bit aside, we could put the whole Forum at risk by 'tweaking' things like that, making it work specifically & uniquely well for us.... But by far the easiest & least traumatic way for all concerned (& for the platform itself) would be for each of those members who post an advert that results in a sale to either mark their advert as SOLD or at least tell us once they've sold their item/s so that one of the Moderators can do it for them!! :lecturef_smilie: Failing that, maybe readers could look at the dates of the Original Post in an Advert thread, and if it's gone more than saaay, 30 days without a 'bump' or 'still available' post from the original advertiser, then you might consider that it's either already sold or the OP's forgotten about it &/or couldn't be bothered to look back in?! :sour: . And if the Advertiser/OP has an email link in their profile &/or they've given an alternative contact method in the advert, then trying that rather than posting 'still available' might be worthwhile/the only way of contacting them if you're really interested?! :dontknow:

I'm not saying it wouldn't be 'nice' to have the old adverts automatically drop off; heck, if there weren't so many old/expired/questionable adverts out there, I might even consider doing it 'man-draulically' in my spare time (yeah, right - like I get any of that... even without the Forum! ) but seriously, the risks associated with starting to play with the platform really don't make it a viable move.... at least not at this stage!! That's not saying that it'll never be considered in the future tho.... but for now - sorry! :bdh:

Ps: - because I brought 'bumping' up, here's just a bit of a note for those sellers who might not realise.... bumping a thread more often than saaay once a week, or dropping the price more often than that REALLY isn't likely to generate a 'quicker' or 'earlier' sale!! :lecturef_smilie: . Most readers here use the 'New Posts' or 'Today's Posts' searches to see what's gone on since they were last here; and for many members, that appears to be only be once a week or so anyway!! So bumping &/or dropping the price more often than that is more likely to prompt prospective readers/buyers to hold off longer rather than jumping in early! At the very least you'll be telling the prospective buyers that you're desperate to sell so if they hold off for another few days/weeks you'll very likely drop the price or throw in some other sweetener.... or you're telling them you're desperate to sell for some other reason, and many readers are quite cynical in what they think/read into what those reasons might be... so by repeated, too early, too frequently, bumping &/or dropping the price, you are only reducing their impression that 'this might actually be a good buy!!'

But as mentioned above, for the Advertiser/OP it REALLY DOES pay to check in at least once a month or so, and when you do that, put up a post telling people that your item/s are still for sale! OR please have the courtesy to tell them that it's no longer for sale/sold! :thumbup:
