There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. So any Verizon folks going to get the iphone?

 I'm very happy with my iPhone and I'm not an apple person per se. As far as carriers go, up here it's a crap shoot, so I'll just stick with AT&T. :(

I'll be holding off till I see what if any problems the Verizon network has with millions of new iphone users. I would take a big hit if I went back now anyway and my phone is working fine, I just wish I had better signal and coverage from time to time. I think it's good to see them pick it up so maybe AT&T will be forced to step up their game.

I don't know if you have this problem at your house but if it is you can get a signal booster that attaches to the computer works pretty good according
to a friend of mine.

You mean you guys upgraded from soup can and string since i left next thing you know you guys will have TV. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Not sure how the rest of the Sprint network is, but their Nextel coverage is pretty bad. I couldn't use my cell at Lamont's house...had to wait until I was nearly Lexington, KY, before I even had two bars. At least lamont can use AT&T from his house. I don't know if WiFi could have worked, but the MiFi sounds like just the ticket for my netbook.

On my trips last year my Sprint card had good signal most everywhere we were, but I'm sure there are dead zones too. Nextel is a different beast altogether - kind of surprised Sprint has not dumped that technology by now and switched everyone over to the Spint network.

People can do without the annoying walkie-talkie thing as far as I'm concerned.

Best Buy sells the Virgin MiFi units for $140 - and it allows you to hook up to 5 devices up at the same time. They also sell a USB stick unit for $99 - but that will giver internet to the computer it's plugged into. They have a 30-day return policy if you don't like it- but you're still out whatever money you paid to Virgin for the months plan ($10 or $40).

These are the same units that Verizon, Sprint and T-mobile sell--- pretty sure they all call them 'MiFi' of some sort. Pretty slick little units. If you're not going to use it much the Virgin plans start at $10 a month for like 250 mb-- the unlimited is $40 a month---- BUT I did find out they just changed the terms and while the $40 a month is unlimited--- once you are over 5 GB during a month the lower your speed until the beginning of a new month. No big deal for me as I didn't hit 5GB on my old one through Sprint.

I am just about fed up with AT&T been with them 7or 8 years with no problems however a month ago they converted to 3G in our area and now i seldom have service at home less than 100 yds from the city limits. I have probably spent 6 hours on the phone trying to get it fixed since, they have opened 4 cases on the problem with tech dept. One time they say nothing can be done and the next time they are fixing it. Night before last they said that is the way it is gonna be until they upgrade the area with more antennas I ask them to release me from my contract and they refused. The supervisor said the contract does not guarantee service. My comment to him is if I just signed a contract I have so many days to cancel if it don't work, so if they quit providing service I should have the same rights.

I've been with Verizon since they were Cellular1, never had a problem till we moved to IN, I have a land line because my cell won't work within a mile of my house. Have called Verizon several times, no results. Looking for something else. BTW, all I need is a phone, I've got all the rest of that stuff.nojoke

I've been a very happy Verizon customer for years. Their coverage is excellent. We even had cell phone coverage on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, with no international charges. But I'll wait to see what the charges will be on Verizon for their data plans before getting a smart phone. Right now a simple little cell phone seems to do what I need.

I've been with them just as long and have the opposite experience. You may be in an area where tower coverage gives you a weak signal. :dontknow:

How many bars are you showing?

Droid 2.2 and will upgrade to 3.0.

I think the next upgrade for Droid will be 2.3. Honeycomb (3.0) will be used primarily for the new Android tablets coming out in April. Not sure it will be available for all Droids.

I have the Droid X with 2.2 and love it.

Just got this from a friend and thought it fit well in this post. :D

Growing Up Without a Cell Phone
If you are 40, or older, you might think this is hilarious
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were
when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning....Uphill... Barefoot...BOTH ways. yadda, yadda, yadda.

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay
a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had itand how easy they've got it!

But now that I'm over the ripe old age of forty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

1) I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

2) There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

3) Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

4) There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

5) Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?

6) We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!

7) There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a damn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY
GOSH !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please! You kids have no idea how annoying you are.

8) And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

9) We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We
had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

10) You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!

11) There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait
ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

12) And we didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!

13) And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!

14)And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were lucky, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place! See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1970
or any time before!

15) And you idiots, don't you know the brim on a cap is to protect your eyes from the sun, if the manufacturer wanted it in the back they would have put it there!

Regards,
The Over 40 Crowd

Lamont, That is great....and so true.
If we wanted money, we worked for it or did the things around the house nobody else wanted to do.
Cell phones have family plans. Out family plan was to make sure you were home each night for dinner.
Call of Duty.......ours was to go and clean up after the dog messed in the yard.

I'm actually in a very unique position... like Ford and Chevy.
I have my personally owned iPhone 4 on AT&T
I ALSO have my company owned Droid X on Verizon.

I like the Droid hardware but the the android os seems laggy and clunky. Mostly becuase of its open sourced programming. I still find it hard to type on the droidx. I use email, phone and a wifi analyser as my apps. But many pages are loaded.

I like my iphone better since EVERYthing is smooth and well thought out. I use alot of apps on the iphone and find typing much easier than the droidx. Even though most apps are available on both droid and iphone, i find i use them on the iphone only.

I dont have much signal issues with either here in Boston.

The current iphone 4 wont be compatible with Verizon's new 4G service. The best bet is wait until the iphone 5 is released in late May or June. Then make the switch.

I went to Verizon today to start getting lined up on an I-phone, but came home with a new Droid X ! After you look closely at the comparison of features/capabilities (if you are not an Apple user), it sure looks like the Droid is a winner!

I like my iphone4 and I haven't had any issues really with coverage or signal regardless of where I have gone. A few here and there, but I figure that will happen with any phone. My biggest issue with AT&T is the cost of the plan for iphones. It seems there are better prices for other phones and Verizon and Sprint have much better prices all together for their phone plans. I will be interested to see if there is an competitiveness to plan prices once Verizon enters the picture. Somehow I doubt it if it is true that AT&T phones won't work on Verizon and vice versa due to technology issues.

Another thought, AT&T is advertising they are going to be going to a G4 platform, my less than 1 year old iphone 4 better be able to upgrade to that. I should not have to buy an iphone5 just for that. Also, after doing some reading, I find it interesting that some companies are able to say they are using G4 but it is actually still G3 technology. It can be so misleading.

I've got an Apple card worth $200 was going to buy an iphone and put it on my wife's business plan with her iphone. Thought I'd wait for Verizon, but after the announcement, I'll just wait til spring and upgrade my Samsung Omnia II to a Samsung Droid 4G. I guess I'll just buy a bunch of music from iTunes with the card.
