SM5 Hesitation or lurching

Maybe I can get some help on this...
I have an 08 SM5 with about 2100lbs on it and have had this problem ever since I put my Hindle on. I bought this bike used with about 700 miles on it and it had the stock exhaust. Only rode it a little until the Hindle came in and now its ridden daily.
The issues: I constantly get a surging or lurching type of feeling while cruising in any gear, and it seems like the bike wants to almost die sometimes.
I don't recall this issue prior to the Hindle install, so am not sure it was there before that. I read some post on this forum, and did install the 02 sensor which did nothing for it and I also did the 15-20 remove the negative battery cable test and I always run 93 octane or the highest octane I can get when I fill up. Neither has helped.

I took the bike to the dealer, and the dealer says this is "normal" behavior after installing a Hindle, but I just don't buy that. They also checked for exhaust leaks and found none.

I read something about a juice box and air filter and wonder if I should try that?

Any suggestions?

PS..no other engine mods other than the hindle and o2

Lurching

You say 2100lbs on it-Maybe thats the problem. Seriously, I ride an 08 SM5 and have 14,000 trouble free miles. I did install the Hindle @10,000 which improved sound and performance. I have no other engine modifications, and use 87 octane fuel. The problem you describe is not "normal". I'm sure others on this forum can give you more information. Good Luck.

I never noticed anything like that in the 1,500 - 2,000 miles that I had a Hindle on my Spyder. It seemed to run smoother overall for me.

Who installed your hindle and was it installed properly?

I'll assume you mean 2100 miles and not 2100 lbs...if that were the case, no question the bike would have issues...

2100 miles, sorry on meds today, lol.
I put it on myself after watching the youtube video on it, was very simple.

Ok, will try that tomorrow. Assuming I need to put the original stock back on to do that?

If by original stock you mean the original muffler, the answer is no. The O2 sensor works with the Hindle on just the same as with the stock muffler. The O2 sensor is not attached to the muffler assembly, but to a different section of the exhaust pipe.

Sorry, should have also mentioned I put the o2 mod on after I had the hindle on and running already, as a possible remedy to the issue...it has not helped.

I would take off the o2 eliminator and put the stock o2 sensor back on, pull the cable on the battery. Surf this board for about 15-20 min. and hook the battery back up, let it idle for a few min. and take it for a spin.

Oh boy - that extra Octane is not helping you at all - and most likely is a big part of the problem. Switch to 87 and run a few tanks - it should help.

I ran the exact same setup as you for 7 months and had no problems with it. Eventually also put the race airflow and fuel pressure mod on too - she jumps off the line like no tomorrow!

Good idea, will try that with the regular octane. Have the spyder taken apart at the moment, putting the neon on it and I got in trouble with the wife for spending too much time with it...doh!
Once I'm out of the dog house, will get back to it, thanks for all the help!

This is from one of my threads, I was having the same problem as you. Maybe this will help

I Wanted to share, my Spyder has had, Cruising speed lurching ,Spyder stalls on take-off unless it is over-reved and you feather the clutch slowly ... but only after it has warmed up (when it's cold, it takes off wonderfully.

Bought my wife a spyder and knew for sure I had problems. The dealer rode both spyders and agreed that hers ran better, was quicker and smoother. Dealer didn't know what to do, everything checked out on BUDS with the exception of a slight gasket leak on exhaust. All problems still existed.

Took a chance and bought this $65. performance chip, did install and tuned bike. What a great product, bike runs as well as my wifes now. Below is the link.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-DYNO-BOOST-PE...3A1%7C294%3A50. Installation and tuning consisted of: splicing into the air tempature out put wire. t-into the O2 out put wire, connecting power with fuse and switch. Then adjustment of screw until performance is gained. The only con that I have is when it's 60 outside my gauge reads 27.

Run... and do not...

Run the regular gas... these engines do not need the premium. It is a waste of your hard earned dollars. When you start your engine after having the battery disconnected for 20 minutes "do not blip the throttle. Let it start without throttle movement. Idle for about 5 minutes with no throttle movement and the computer should reset itself.

:agree: What he said !!!! :2thumbs:

Out of all of the remedies that I have heard and tried, the ONLY item that actually has completely fixed my surging issue is the Two Brother Juice Box that I got from NMN. So...having been there, done that, it has my vote for sure!
