• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Skid Plate ?

NO, it stays on for oil changes, it doesn't go back that far, it only goes to the rear edge of the trunk section and stops in front of the control arms.

Front skid plate

We have the skid plate and in high cross winds, keeps the front end stable instead of getting air under front end and lifting, have a Rocket double motorcycle trailor for the 2012 RTS, had to add ramps after getting the air dam, because the air dam hits the ramp without the added ramp to lift front end up to make the difference.Be sure to check before driving up on your trailor after adding the air dam.

Hey Harvey...

I already have the Cat Shield and Radiator Block-Off installed last year.

Bump Skid looks great, but I've already added 2x6s to my trailer to clear the nose. If I put on the Skid, how much more clearance will I lose?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, just noticed this post. The BumpSkid only adds 3/8" to the bottom of the Spyder.
Thanks,
Harvey

Harvey-

Will you be installing these at SpyderFest? The new Elksa that John is bringing for me should add 3" to the nose, so I should really be OK with the trailer!!

I visited with Harvey this past Friday and he informed me that he will be bringing several BumpSkids along with some help to do the installs.

AK Riding from an AK resident :)

Hi All,

I live up here in Alaska and have never needed my skid plate up here. The roads are typically in great shape, of course if you are planning on riding all the way to Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay) then YES you need a skid plate as the majority of the road (as known as the Haul road or Dalton highway) is gravel, sand and clay. It is pretty packed but not the best road for bikes. But if you are just going to get on the ferry and then ride the Alaska roads you are pretty safe with out the skid plate. If you are going to ride up the Trans Alaska highway, up through Canada, then just know there are a lot of frost heaves in places and will feel like you are on a roller coaster, lol. The husband and I are looking at planning a trip in 2013 and riding all the way to sturgis.

Have fun and drop me a line when you get up here, and maybe we can meet up for a ride. :))

Ground Clearance Question

Hello Everyone!

I'm planning to get my Elkas at SpyderFest and I know they raise the front a bit. I'm very low clearance onto my SpyderBed (trailer) so do you think the incerased ground clearance from the Elkas will offset any loss of clearance from the BumpSkid?

Thanks for everyone's $.02. (Harvey: Feel free to put in at least $.04!)

It's only 3/8" added to the bottom and yes the Elka's do help get it higher. The good thing is if it rubs no problem, you're protected and it is so slick it will slide across without hanging up.

Elka's and the BumpSkid together is the ultimate setup. Even though the Elka's raise the front that's not why you should buy them. The Elka's give the Spyder stability and ride adjustability. They won't get it high enough to stop a Raccoon from tearing stuff up. The BumpSkid may give you more MPG depending on riding style. A couple owners have already reported increases in mileage due to closing off the drag from the cavities under the nose.

Remember when you make it higher you increase the drag with more air underneath.

In short they work well together!

Bump skid trailer loading

Thought I would check back I on this thread to make an update report. Just took delivery of our 7 x 14 enclosed trailer to make the 1000 milemtripmto Spyderfest. Was concerned that Spyke my be too low for the ramp after installing the bump skid. Well...I'm happy to report there was still about one inch of front end clearance when we crested the ramp.

Cant wait to see you all in Cuda next week!;)

And Harvey...

Sorry... I was just reading this thread and realized I asked the clearance question TWICE! Sucks to be 60 next month...

Anyway, will you keep a BumpSkid2 aside for me? I'd like to have you install it at SpyderFest...

Thank You!

lights on Bump Skid

Once the bump skid is installed it becomes obvious it creates a great place to add as set of LED's hoping someone will be at Spyderfest with lights for this area.

Yes it does. Recessed nicely with a router.
BumpSkid from Harvey @ Spyderpops who will be at SpyderFest
Lights from Reggy @ TricLED who will also be at SpyderFest!

Had the shop route a section for my halo lights. This is how I did mine.had to use some glue though to make Em stick. Simply wouldn't adhere. To be fair though, they were some spare lights I had sitting around for a while.
