• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

skid guard falling off

2Gunns

RT-S PE#0032
Just noticed that my left side skid guard (or whatever it's called....the plastic piece some folk say they use for highway peg) if very very loose.

Could someone tell me in detail how it attaches...what do I need to look for in order to reattach?

Thanks guys:2thumbs:

I suspect the front hooks were either not properly inserted if they were off for service, or that they are damaged/broken off. One of mine had to be repaired...and the spoiler was eventually replaced. Just a guess, fasteners could also have fallen out or failed to have been replaced. All you can do is inspect it carefully and see where and what the problem is.

Thanks for the pic, Lamont. I was trying to figure out how to describe these fasteners. Anyway, the hooks I was talking about are to the right of the picture, where the front portion curves around. They support the front portion, and if broken or bent can cause the spoiler to be loose. That was the symptom I had, that let me find the bent one I had after a service visit. The trick is hooking them securely before inserting the fasteners, and to remove them carefully. Being hidden, it is easy to accidentally force them too much. Pull this panel off forward, not downward.

Thanks for the photo Lamont, that really helped. It appears that something may be broken

My left side is detached at the bottom It looks like there are 2 gromets that hold the bottom in place. The front one is not attached to anything and the rear seems to be broke off.

...Pull this panel off forward, not downward.

IF I recall, this panel also attaches at 2 places on the bottom. These 2 attach points simply "slip over" their respective "posts". So you will have to wiggle it "downward" to remove it from these posts and completely from the bike.

John,
I have attached a few photos I took last night after washing the RT.
Splashguard1 shows the 2 fasteners on the outside--one being a threaded bolt, while the other is a plastic rivit.
Splashguard2 shows the 2 slip on pins that the above post refered to. You will note that I have bolted the front post in place of the pin to provide better stability as I use my splashguard footrests.
Splashguard3 shows the front hooks that engage the radiator scoop.
Make sure all of these attachment points are snug. With this all being plastic there will be some play, but it should be firm.

Nice of you to take the time to do this. A picture is worth 1,000 words!

Gadget,

Thank you so much for the photo and help on this. It looks like the rear tab is broken off. The front tab is there but the inside piece is not attached to anything.

Guess a trip to the dealership is in order. Sure hope this is covered under warrenty.
