• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Since we won't be driving high RPM's anymore....

Kratos

Ultimate Spyderlover
Does this mean the dreaded belt drone/vibration is gone? (Since we won't be hitting 5000rpm+)

It seems to me that the drive belt speed is unrelated to engine speed, except as managed by the transmission. Unless I am wrong that means drive belt vibration will be unaffected by engine RPM. :dontknow:

I'm talking about that special vibration we all get on the highway in 5th gear when the rpm hits that 5300 range....

If it still happens at 5300 rpm; consider it as a warning shot across your bow, and a warning to slow down! :D
You'll most likely be up around 90mph... or more! :yikes:

2014

I hope they don't get all of the problems fixed with the 14's.We won't need Spyderlovers any more and what would I do this winter when the snow is knees deep to a tall indian.Been married 50+ years and it didn't take long to find out what my wifes favorite wine is,I WANNA GO SHOPPING:yes:

For sure..!!

there will be differences. The belts being used on the 14's are of a different composition and can be adjusted to different tensions. They are designed for the new torque spec's but the drive system is the same. Being the same length may still have same vibrations you saw before...:dontknow:

the engine may be going slower, but the rear wheel is spinning just as fast as before and so is the belt. Sorry, maybe the new belt will be better.

Time will tell on the new 2014 RT's. Waiting to hear from several people who have chalked up about 5000 miles or so. Then, we will have a very good picture--IMO.

With such a nice change in the operating rpm; I wonder if they managed it all within the transmission, or if they also played with the pulley sizes too? :dontknow:

Belt

I know this is a dumb question but why can't the drive belt be changed to a chain drive? :hun: Now don't all jump straddle of me at once.:duh: nojoke

I think BRP went with a belt drive for the same reason Harley-Davidson has had one for decades. It is virtually maintenance free. It doesn't have to be cleaned or lubed and it'll go for a much longer period without wearing out than a chain will.

" I noticed a touch of vibration cruising at 4,100 rpm in top sixth gear, which Tissier attributed to some resonance from the belt final drive." BWAHAHA :roflblack: first 2014 belt vibration report. Good to know BRP hasn't changed what is next? Just being mean since I am stuck with my 2013 :yikes:

4100 in sixth gear?.......from my understanding of the new shift points, 4100 should not be "cruising" with the in-line triple.
