• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should I jump on it? In need of advice.

Thank you everyone

Thank you everyone for your advice . Just for anyone who is curious, I tried offering the people up to 15000 for the bike but, unfortunately, the guy said that it had to be 17000 or nothing :(. Even more depressing is that when I went to the for sale forums and found a new bike that was close by, that I was quickly falling for, the guy told me that he had already sold it. So I guess for now I'll just have to keep looking. BTW, tobor9, I contacted your friend in Charleston about her bike but it is an SM5. When I tried to test drive one at a dealership once, I found that my foot was too big to fit in the space for the shifter :yikes:. Unfortunately for me and my size 15 clown feet I think that I need an SE5. Thank you again for your help. I hope that soon I'll be able to find one and that I'll see everyone on the open road, but for now I'll just have to keep my eyes open.

From what other members have said before, the shifter position can be moved up/down.

fyi i purchased 2009 gs from dealer for 13,500---and i agree that add-on's don't normally increase the retail value of the bike--but if you buy stock and then do add-ons yourself, you will be in the same ballpark....corbin hard bags are 1800 and the seat im guessin' was around 800...so six of one 1/2 dozen of the other....just mho:dontknow:

While it is true that I'll probably end up spending just as much to put those same options on the stock bike that I will end up with, the thing is that I will not have to pay all of that all at once. I could pay what the guy was asking but if I did then I would end up cutting my bank account by about 75% just to make the initial purchase. I would rather take the time to enjoy the bike and have to purchase the option as I go rather than to wonder if I can pay for it and my other things.

I have actually found another bike in Charleston SC (see below) that is an 09. It is almost a stock machine but has only 817 miles and is $13, 399. I've already made an offer to them and they did accept it. Now all I need to do is go there and verify that there are no issues with the bike, close the loan, and I've got my bike. Here is hoping that my plans don't fall into the "mice and men" category.

If I remember right, "machinegunner" had fabbed a heel-toe shifter for his RS along with his floorboards that Rivco now manufactures. This was in '09.

RT Sales makes a heal/toe shifter, but you also need their floor boads too. The heal/toe shifter is around 90 dollars, but the floor boards were more than what I could afford at the time.

I'm just wondering should I spring for a trailer to pick up the bike and wait until I get the spyderpops heat shields or would I be OK driving it from Charleston. It'd be about a 2 hour drive and I would be wearing tennis shoes. How how does the right leg get on a stock machine?

You'll be fine. Some people don't notice the heat as much and some are more sensitive to it. No need to trailer over heat concerns. I don't have the SpyderPops stuff other than the missing air dam mod he sells. My right foot does get warm from time to time, but nothing unbearable - at least for me.

It is up to you, but I would perhaps buy decent riding boots and wear jeans for the ride home.

I've had a 2008 RS SM-5 for over 3 years. I live in Florida and I had the heat shield installed just last year at Spyderfest . Oh yeah, I also wear tennis shoes all the time. The heat is not unbearable. You'll be able to ride the two hours home no problem. Plus you can always take a break halfway. :congrats: and welcome!
