• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Why..!!

seeing they are predatory birds that help keep the rodent (rats, mice, etc) population down seems a waste. You could have sent them our way love them to hunt down some crows..!! :roflblack:

GREAT SHOT!!!! Are they nesting in your area or just passing thru on a hunt??? Did ya get both of em at diff times?? Know what KIND of hawk they are? Can't tell from his/her back. How many pix did ya get?:firstplace::popcorn:

There's one by my house hunting our 7 lb dog....and the dog knows it. The hawk has gone after him at least twice. For awhile the dog wouldn't go outside and we didn't know why until we saw the hawk dive at him.

We know the feeling... Tink is a touch less than four pounds...

Between the Owls, Bald Eagles, and Hawks; we keep our "eyes to the skies" when she's outside... and she's never outside alone. :yikes:

That's why I was afraid if Stumpy got outside not on a leash. He'd make a nice snack. I saw a squirrel get picked up last year. When the hawk took off, it's squirrel mate took off running after the hawk! I thought, good luck squirrel!

Camera is a Nikon D-300, first generation. Lens is a Sigma DG 120-400mm, f4.5~5.6 APO HSM. It has an Optical Stabilizer. I've named it "The Monster". For those who don't know, it would be the equivalent to a 180-600mm zoom in 35 mm photography.
I had to use manual focus because the lens wouldn't lock on the bird for some reason. Too close? Matted colors? Branches too close? Maybe I didn't get all the switches set right on the lens? Yea, switches!
I wanted the shots so I switched the auto focus off.

They are out there now making a racket just begging to get "shot again". :roflblack:

Nice! I have a Sigma 150-500, aka the "big-ma", and I have to use manual focus as well. The auto focus tries to choose branches or leaves or the bird blends too well into the tree that it has a problem with lack of contrast. Also turn off matrix focusing on the Nikon, and use single point focusing.

I shot this Horned Owl at about 50ft and the auto focus was hunting back and forth between the bird and the branches.

Well, I'm an idiot (:opps:) and I will freely admit it!!!:banghead: By the way, nice picture!!!

SDM, I guess if you are bigger predator and you could catch this size hawk it might be a tasty treat?

Nice shots Cavman and asp125.

I love photography. I can't wait to retire so I can just ride around and take photos.

Wow. Great shot! Any post shot edits?

At first when I read shot a hawk. I thought you literally shot the hawk dead. LOL! Threw a couple of us off right a little bit right there.
