• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Front shocks for 2009 GS

Fox ?
Progressive ?
Elka ?

What is the recommendation on shocks, re best bang for the buck.

A 2009 isn't worth too much, you have to weigh that into the equation.

Elka's are great... but they come at a price. If you have mechanical abilities, then I would suggest you take a shock off the bike and disassemble a shock (take the spring off) and check if the damping functionality is still good. If they are, I would just swap the springs out at ~$85 a spring. If the damping is shot, look for a set of oem used shocks with low miles. There are plenty of guys who bought Elka's that would sell the oem shocks for not a lot; then change the springs on the new shocks.

You have a RS, so a spring with a 400 lbs/in for the front and 750 lbs/in should be good to include 2 up riding.

my 2 cents.

Here's what I got....

I went with the Fox shocks. The others are much more and may be a bit better but with the pitbull relocators for the older models the Fox work great...

A lot of the owners of the 08's and 09's used the OEM shocks off of the RT's, when they up graded to the stiffer shocks. Do a search on the previous posts, and try to find some RT shocks that are sitting around in garages, using the for sale / want to buy forum. Good luck

. :lecturef_smilie:....That probably is a good price, but I don't think the size ( length ) is correct for Him........Mike

Are you looking to upgrade or just replace worn out OEM?
IMHO- Elkas would be at the top of the list, then either Fox or OEM 11'-12' RT shocks, then 10' RT shocks or just RS OEM replacements. 13'+ RT, RS, ST are going to be a bit shorter and super soft, not an upgrade.
If you can still find them 11'-12' RT shocks are the best bang for buck. They typically go for $100-$150 for very low mileage shocks.
Good luck!

Progressive makes a very good shock. Not Elkas, but quite good.

Yes they do. And they are talked about quite a bit on other applications, especially Harley.
Know anyone running them on a Spyder?

When I spoke with Progressive last summer, they had discontinued shocks for the Spyder. I installed Spyder Fox units. A bit stiff, but I'm still working on that. When the snow and mud are gone from my lawn, I might get back at that.

I love the fox podium shocks that I installed on my 2015 RT. Great ride ,great quality build. There are a lot of people that can service fox shocks.
I bought them from my spyder dealer.
