• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shifting into 1st gear

When I start up my Spyder, it will not shift into 1st gear right away, Is this normal???

I just bought a 2017 F3-T, SE6.

I went to fill up with gas and the same thing happened after I filled the tank.

Oil level

You might want to check the oil level in the 1330 motor. There is a specific way to do that, it's been outlined here many times. Even with the oil level correct there will be an audible " clunk" at the first shift after startup.

Good luck,
Kaos

PS: Dealer setup does not guarantee the :spyder2: has been set up correctly ------ there have been horror stories about pi$$ poor dealer set up:yikes:

to shift into 1st, need foot on brake.

Very important... before your left thumb can do any shifting on a Spyder, it needs permission (cooperation) from your right foot...on the brake.

Had a highly embarrassing moment with my new Spyder, first long ride out. Came into a small town, Main street. Cars backed up for two blocks owing to consecutive, slow traffic lights. Bike began to heat up as we sat there idling, creeping slowly ahead. Auxilliary fan came on two or three times. Because bike was new, and I was concerned about overheating without even being broken in, I decided to put it in neutral and rev the engine a few times. We coasted for several minutes, with me revving lightly now and again. Then it was our turn to accelerate and move off. Tried several times to thumb-shift into first; it wouldn't. I sat there twisting the throttle and going nowhere, through several attempts. Couldn't figure it out. Drivers behind were becoming impatient. It was obvious I was a newbie, an incompetent, a rookie on a shiny new toy. Surely I must have looked like a jerk. Didn't help when wifey leaned forward and shouted: "what's wrong?". Almost absent-mindedly I touched the brake as I considering bailing out and pushing us off the road. At that, it kicked into first and off we went.... red-faced, but relieved. An early Spyder lesson: go through the brake to get to first and reverse.

NEUTRAL

Put it in neutral before shutting it off.
:agree::agree::agree::agree::agree: ...... I HAVE been told on this Forum that it isn't necessary ...... However it's been my experience that it DOESN'T ALWAYS do it ..... I've told my transmission that it MUST but I think it only knows Canadian :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: Mike

Maybe you can explain this to me?

trike will shut off with being in 1st gear, but then to restart back up, you must have foot on brake to start up. otherwise only need foot on brake to put in 1st gear. I found this out, by leaving in first, then wondering what is wrong with starting up, won't do it. AHHHH left in gear

I understand all that. So what! What does that have to do with the OP's problem of not being able to shift into first gear?
