• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shift rpms and fuel economy...

 And there's actually a reason for that... and I know it!

The hotter it is; the less dense the atmosphere becomes.
The fuel injection will pitch less fuel into the intakes in order to compensate for the thinner air!

And you thought that all that hot air was bad for you! :roflblack:

Hey, that makes good sense Bob....I'll buy it!

It's actually true too!
I'm an old two-stroke tuner before they started playing with fuel injection on snowmobiles.
You always had to watch for big changes in either temperature or altitude... Otherwise: "POP!", goes the weasel!

INEXPERIENCE talking here.

I tried the higher shift points overnthe last week. (3700-5500). Love it the rt-s seems much more responsive.

SOOOoooo! Tell me why my MPG has actuallycimproved when everyone else is concerned about a drop?
( Not complaining!)

My suspicion is that, at lower rpms, it takes more throttle(fuel) to get the same response since the bike lugs a bit.
Also, I am probably paying better attention to my use of the throttle.

Any one have any ideas?

Just curious!

It's magic!!

No really. Most likely it has to do with everything you said. Ain't it great!

I typically shift and cruise at 4K but yesterday I tried 5k and wow, its a different beast. I get a vibration in and around 4000 but it is gone near 5000. Bike was smoother, way more reponsive and gas milage was about the same. I ran the Chuchanut yesterday as fast as I could so I expected the milage to suffer a bit form norm but I still got 29mpg.

After getting 32 mpg consistently for the last several tanks I filled up yesterday and it calc'd out to 34.2!! Not sure why....don't think my driving style has changed any, the 5K shifting, first of all wouldn't make that much difference I don't think and secondly I've only been doing it for the last quarter of the tank....so it's a mystery, but a good one.
Besides, we aren't s'posed to understand EVERYTHING!! A few unknowns builds character....they say! :dontknow:

Now it's 35/per! Filled up this afternoon at 196.1 on the odo....no bars left but the light wasn't flashing. It took 5.6 gal. to top off....same side of the same pump, squoze in every last drop, etc.....this is very cool.....heck, at this rate I'll be getting over 50 mpg by the middle of August!! :hun: :roflblack:

Pretty soon, you'll have to remember to pull over and drain some out of the tank! Otherwise it'll be overflowing all over the place! :roflblack:

That explains the gasoline smell....that's it, I'm making gas!! No wonder the '09 SM5 is in such high demand!! :yikes::roflblack::thumbup:

I don't even think that Randy's PE is that talented...
Making gas??? :roflblack: Sorry! There's a joke in there somewhere and I just don't dare go looking for it! :D

I know the Secret!

OK so I get 40mpg. I shift at 6000 more often than not, but always between 5,000 & 6,000 rpm.

Alright MY secret is I use Canadian Gallons..........160oz instead of 132oz.

So 40 mpg Cdn = 32 mpg US

:ohyea:
