• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I understand that you take mirrors off. Is it hard to get the actual mirror out if it's casing? And, it gas double sided adhesive that u scrape off. To reinstall after putting light on. Does any adhesive go back?

3M automotive 2 sided adhesive tape is what I used. Works without the mess of the liquid adhesives.
 
I would also appreciate any tips for this job. After removing the mirror assembly from the bike is it necessary to remove the mirror and backing plate from the mirror housing?

What method did you use to remove the mirror from the backing? where is was attached with adhesive.

I used heat and WD-40. With the mirror assembly off the bike I placed the assembly upside down on my workbench on a soft towel to prevent any serface damage. I applied heat to the mirror glass to warm it up then I took a flexible putty knife to the glass edge prying it away from the plastic back plate until there was a gap the size that I could get the tube of the WD-40 into and I sprayed a a heavy dose. If you feel resistance while prying stop an use more heat until you can pry this gap.
Let the WD-40 sit awhile so it can loosen the adhesive bond. Then continue using heat and WD-40 until you can peel the glass off with the help of the putty knife.
By not over heating the glass this way I was able to not distort the plastic backing plate that heat alone did to my first mirror. I then used WD-40 to help in the removal of the two sided tape that the factory uses.
After cleaning off all the old adhesive and wipeing down the surfaces with alcohol I removed the backing plate and held the LED to the plate and scribed and outline on the plate. Using a box cutter I heated up the blade and cut out the outline. Using a plastic box I had I cut out a backing surport that I super glued to the back of the mirror support. I placed the LED unit in the cut out resting on the support piece I just glued in and applied 3M automotive two sided tape to the backing plate leaving the LED exposed.
I reattached the backing plate to the mirror assemble routing the wires through a small hole I drilled behind the plate and connected them to the two wires for the turn signals. I then placed the mirror glass onto the tape and then attached the mirror assembly back onto the bike.
Once both are done you my have to reprogram the flashers by holding down the four way flasher button down for 30 seconds.

Is the mirror back plate attached to the gimble and screwed in before the mirror glass is glued to the back plate?

GOD this job was a pain! I wound up doing it a little differently. Video to come but I gotta tell you this process is NOT for the faint at heart!
I don't think I would ever do it again even if someone paid me big bucks to do it!

But I had a accident :banghead:

The screw is behind the mirror glass. You need to separate the mirror glass from its backing plate using heat and the putty knife technique. The mirror will tilt in its mount far enough to get to the outer edge of the glass and get the removal started. Just go slow and with sufficient heat, let the knife do its thing, do not pry on the glass. Its thin.
 
Stupid question...If I read these posts correctly, two sided tape secures the glass to the mount. Rather than use heat, is it possible to "slice" the mounting tape with fishing line?

I tried it. I tried dental floss and fishing line. No go. The edge of the glass is just sharp enough to tear it up. I then went and got the thinnest steel fishing leader I could get. It was too thick and while I got it under the glass it was impossible to make the sawing motion and I was worried I would chip the edges of the mirror.

But we both had the same idea... Just didn't work!
