Sena sm 10 dongle bracket

I had the dealer install the Sena dongle in the frunk with the bracket that came with it. I would like to know if the dongle can be removed from the bracket for charging so I do not have to run a extention cord and charger to the bike for charging? It would be easier to remove it and charge it if possible . I have tried and cannot seem to get it off the bracket. Thanks

You should not need to worry about charging it, it is supposed to charge by itself when the Spyder is powered up.

With the dongle off, but the Spyder running or at least the ignition on, check for a little red light indicating that it is charging, if not, maybe it was not connected properly.

I installed this dongle on both my 2012 RT Limited and my 2014 RT Limited. Both installs went into the rear trunk for ease of access and running the wires from the radio to the dongle.

Anyways, I used the smaller plastic bracket that allows you to remove the dongle. I HAVE removed mine more than once when I accidentally left it on and it was fully discharged...easy to forget to shut off until you get in the routine of shutting it off each time. So....I would think you would want to be able to remove it and I think any bracket would allow that -- you can ask your dealer as I did not use the metal bracket. I did take out my install instructions but it was hard to tell how it exactly mounts...I would think there is a small tab that you can press to release the dongle on the backside.

IF you have it fully discharged, it will take time to charge before it's useful again on the bike. Once it gets to a minimum charge level, then it hooks up ok.

Good luck....

I think I'm going to talk to the tech about relocating that thing. It sure is a pain having it in the frunk. I'd prefer it in the trunk or even better, the center console where I can get to it more conveniently to turn it off. Having it in the frunk wouldn't be so bad if it went off and on with the key. You know, this is a really lousy setup for a $30,000 bike. :gaah: On all my BMW's it was integral with the radio, not some aftermarket add on

sena bracket

Thanks for the imput. It does not seem to charge from the bike so I will have to check with the dealer to see if they have the power supply hooked up properly. It does have a tab on it that seems it would be for releasing it from the bracket but it does not seem to do anything when I push it and try to release it. Thanks again

If I go out and reach underneath the metal bracket on mine, I can feel something "sticky" which makes be believe it is attached to the metal bracket with some kind of double backed tap. I tried to lift it, but it is really stuck on there. You should be able to tell if it's charging because there is a little red light on the front of it that glows red when the bike is running and the unit is off. If you turn the unit on, watch the red light that's an arc on the front. It flashes once for every 25% the unit is charged. One flash = 25% - 2 -50% etc. It may be charged and it may just be a pairing problem. Pairing this unit to a helmet can be tricky.

Got it,I removed the metal bracket and just used the small stick on plastic bracket. It can now be removed in seconds and the little red LED is on when the bike is running with the dongle turned off so it is charging. Thanks for all the help This site and all the people here is the best.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Just out of curiosity, how was it held to the metal bracket. Double back tape ???

Let it charge for about an hour while you're running around and then turn it on and try to pair it to the headset

Mine stays charged I stuck it to fuse box with double back tape. But I'm with you it'd be better in the trunk away from engine wiring eliminate noise

the SM10 has 2 ribs that go through the bracket
there is a plastic slide that goes under the bracket and slides into the 2 ribs
it has a finger tab for easy removal
when mine was installed the connection on the radio plug has 1 pin push out so I did not get power.
just had to push that wire home and it worked.
the unit does work great

WP_000124.jpgWP_000127.jpgWP_000128.jpg I got rid of my bracket. When I put the luggage in the frunk, the usb wire connection got bent. I was lucky I did not have to replace it. I bought some heavy duty Velcro and attached the dongle directly to the back of the frunk. This moved it back about 2 inches. I sometimes forget to turn off the dongle, and this makes it really easy to pop it out and put it on a home charger. Easy fix, took about 10 minutes.
