Seeking Helmet Hedset Recommendations

I have a J&m bluetooth headset

I started with a scala Q2 but no support for a2dp, had to wire in my iphone for music and the speakers suck.


The J&M has great speakers, supports a2dp connections also and can use a wired setup to the passenger. I don't ride with passengers much so I can use an inexpensive wired headset on my passenger helmet.

it paired up with my iphone with no problems and now I can listen to mp3s or on my way to work Pandora..

I put my Iphone in a ram aqua box and have tomtom app for it to do GPS

Scala is releasing the G4 which has the a2dp(stereo) very soon. It's already available for pre order on several sites now.

I have a Collett set up. It works great. Bluetooth stereo, and they're completely waterproof.

I love, love, love my Blue Ant headsets. They don't have dual speakers for your helmet, but they meet all of your other requirements. Plus they work with your GPS, or cellphone. You can talk to one another and if you get a call you can switch to talk to the caller by touching a button on your helmet. You can also easily swap them from one helmet to another. I wear open face while my DH wears full face. He has no problems hearing me even with the increased wind noise from my open face helmet. I highly recommend them and the price difference also makes them a great deal.

Not the Scalas. IMHO

Unless you want to listen to music in mono. They are not compatible with the Bluetooth stereo protocol.

I returned mine for the IMC Motorcoms. A bit more then the Scala but they have one feature I think beats them all.

You don't have to use helmet speakers which in my experience are never worth a damn. You can use earbuds and if those are noise reducing you can really hear what you want to hear besides the noise reduction inside your helmet. The speakers that come with them are the best I have ever seen but they still are not as clear and quiet as earphones.

I was wearing them in Fayetteville when we meet and as we rode down Dickman I was listening to glorious tunes in perfect stereo. lol

I have a Chatterbox XBi2 and it works great. It is not voice activated, but once a connection is made it stays open until you press a button to close (and reopen it).

Stereo bluetooth, long battery life, you don't need to perform surgery on your helmet to put the speakers in like the J&M.

Overall great product.

Well I'm new here, but since I just performed surgery on my Cardo Scala I thought I'd add a bit of insight to this thread. My wife and I ryde 2 up on the Spyder and have been using the Q2 for a few months. The bluetooth communication portion of the headset works great. We were just not happy with the lousy mono for music, and the input jack (which is stereo), no matter what the source, was never loud enough to hear above about 45mph. So after doing some research I decided to lop off the crappy speakers, and solder on a 1/8" stereo headphone jack. Now I can plug any set of earbuds into the Cardo headset. I also purchased a little in line battery operated amp called a Boostaroo to attach to my ipod. The sound is great. The soldering is a bit tedious, but not too bad if you use a small pen. Definitely not for use in town as it would be a safety issue, but very cool on the highway. Good luck with finding the right solution for yourself.

That's why I went with the newer Cardo Scalarider G4. Yes, it costs more ($370 for a matched pair), but has more functionality, greater range, and STEREO BLUETOOTH.

Did a 500 mile trek over the weekend listening to 400+ mp3 songs in rich stereo from my BT paired Motorola Droid, and it was absolute bliss. Was able to take phone calls too - the music pauses for the incoming call and the music returns as soon as the phone call ends.

Of course there's a down side - the number of buttons/controls on the G4 is more than the Q2, but once you get past the learning curve it is no problem.
