Security System Question

I'm thinking about getting a security system installed on my new 2012 RT Limited. I'm looking for good leads. I've gone into two different business' and they gave me two entirely different recommendations. One said to steer clear of the proximity systems and the other said to go with it. :dontknow: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i'm under the impression that the spyder key is coded and needs to be in the ignition in order to start so to me thats enough security.what more do you need.they won't be able to disengage the brakes they can't lift the bike up and put into a truck can't be picked up by a wrecker unless dragged on to a flat bed even then won't do them any good proably destroy the drive system if dragged that far.of course this is just my opinion i would spend the moneey on a mod then security since there is something there already.

I have it on my bike. It has a silent mode, if the alarm goes off, it will alert you on the keyfob up to two miles away without loud useless sirens. I bought it more for if I was staying in a hotel or something, I would know if someone was messing with my bike; it would alert me in my room. It has a proximity sensor that can be adjusted, mine is not overly sensitive at all.

It's not really a reason for fear of being stolen, but more of a reason to deter people who don't know any better and try to "dry test" the :spyder2: without the owners permission. I have heard the horror stories, from leaving marks on the seat to actually causing cosmetic damage on the dash. Although locking the handlebars is a good system to steer away the "ohhh let me sit on it" people, the ones that have a sense of envy are the ones you really want to have some kind of security besides the chip on the key...:wrong:

I installed a very basic (read inexpensive) security alarm at the "urging" of my insurance company. :dontknow: It is the base Gorilla Motorcycle Alarm that retails for around $100.00

I believe that it would take a well coordinated team of professional thieves to pick up and cart away a Spyder. If you lock the steering wheel the Spyder isn't going anywhere fast, and if you have ever tried to lift it and place it in the back of a truck, well good luck.

That being said, I use the "warn away" function almost exclusively to deter curious people from attempting to sit on it or play with the handlebars. It is quite sensitive and gives off an annoying tone if the machine is moved. It even talks back to motorcycles with loud pipes that pass too close. (Notice that I did not name any particular brand)

Alarms are definite deterrents to theft and vandalism, but be prepared to leave whatever you are doing due to false alarms, especially if your Spyder gets all excited about that cute bike with straight pipes that just had to rev its engine on the way by.
