• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Second time riding experience on a Spyder

Today was all about me getting wet and feeling the wind and I got those two elements which was great. Did same as last weekend mastering local roads, roundabouts and city roads and decided to throw in a dual carriage way which I got Sandra into sixth gear for the first time. Again I am constantly reminded of all the advice on Spyderlovers forum and it is paying of as a newbie to riding and STILL no mistakes yet. Next weekend if weather is good I would like to go on a motorway for the first time with Sandra.
Motorcyclists are loving Sandra and see she is a stunner and asking me the questions how fast? and how much?
Pedestrians are approaching me at traffic lights and asking questions. Pedestrians are taking photos too.
I can report there are no problems with Sandra mechanically/electrically.
The Guardian Bell that Bob Denman sent me continues to give me good luck and I strongly recommend any newbie like myself to contact Bob, to see if he can send them one too.
Highlight of the week for me is a newbie sending me a private message (No names mentioned) and asking me for advice relating to first time experience riding on Spyderlovers forum. I don't give advice on here as a rule because I am a newbie and know very little about Spyders, but I suppose I can say what its like to ride a Spyder for the very first time because I have done it.
Look forward to reporting to you about third time riding experience taking on a motorway, any tips/advice most welcome

Hey ! You may not know Spyders that well, but you are a GenI F3 owner, and you know YOU. I personally
enjoy hearing about you experiences. We probably all have and do experience the "audience reaction".
I believe also, that you are burning up a roadway that most of us will not, so you keep posting....and THANKS !

Thanks for posting about your experiences on your new Spyder! You certainly can post advice from your experience. Many of us may not remember what a newbie may need to know, and you, being just ahead of that stage will have something to offer.

Question: What's a "duel carriage way?" When I first read it, I thought it meant a 4-lane limited access highway, but then you mentioned a "motorway."

Dual Carriage Way

Hi PraireSpyder,

A dual carriageway in the UK is a road which has two lanes of traffic travelling in each direction with a strip of grass or concrete down the middle to separate the two lots of traffic.

Hope this helps explain. Geoff (OJ UK) will correct me if I have described the dual carriage way wrong, but to the best of my knowledge this is what I know a dual carriage to be in the UK.

:D I'm glad to hear that you and Sandra have become such an "item"... :D
Keep posting about your experiences; you'll be helping the many other riders that are curious; but haven't bought a Spyder just yet! :2thumbs:

That's what I envisioned when you used the term. But is that different from a "motorway" then?

Sorry, but I am only fluent in American.

...And we haven't even begun to talk about the fact that he has to ride on the "Wrong" side of the road...

:joke::joke::joke::joke::joke:

Thanks Darren!

I am one of the potential spyder buyers that needs to read comments from new purchasers, positive and negative to help me make a decision to buy one or not! Keep up the good work.;)

There you have it..

Miles/kilometers of smiles from a Rock Star...:roflblack: glad your enjoying your ryde and testing all the scenarios...:2thumbs: it only gets better....

When they ask how fast, make sure you point to the 200 kph speedo. Not as exciting since you folks operate in KMH, but it gets a good rise out of people here. They assume its MPH here.

Guaranteed Excitement

Thanks Darren!

Hi Sam,

Two words I have for you and that is "GAURANTEED EXCITEMENT".

So if you ride on the wrong side of the road??? What side is the steering wheel on????:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

sorry couldn't resist and good luck with the new ride, keep the updates coming

Dual Carriageway and Motorway differences

That's what I envisioned when you used the term. But is that different from a "motorway" then?

Sorry, but I am only fluent in American.

Motorways in the UK have between 2 to 4 lanes. Motorways do not have any junctions to turn right from. They have slip roads on and off. Dual carriageways can have right turns so that you cross the opposite carriageway. Learner drivers are allowed to use dual carriageways unlike motorways.
Motorways and dual carriageways can be driven at the national speed limit of 70 mph (unless signs say otherwise).

Steering wheel

British cars have the steering wheel on the right hand side

Two wheeler experience?

Have you ridden any two wheel mc's before? Good if you haven't. Nothing to un- learn. You are a blank canvas, painting your own portrait. Just relax, use a light grip and enjoy the ride.
( you will tire of the attention at some point, I think we all do, truth be told.)

Patti,
Do you remember your first 1,000 miles on a Spyder? :dontknow:
:D Neither do I! :D
That's why I like reading about Darren's excitement, and the fun that he is having!

:agree: That's why I want him and other new Spyder owners to post their experiences. We get to share his joy and relive our own. We also get to see how far we've come and appreciate why I love Spyder-touring.
