• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I want to add a second battery to my spyder but what are the general rules on doing so from what I understand it needs to be the same type of battery is this true because I had my eye on another one a quarter the size of the factory oem battery that can be tucked away easily

I think your biggest hurdle may be installing a battery isolator.

You don't want full charge going to each battery all the time....especially if they are not the same battery.

Alternator needs to be able to handle it also.

I've run dual batteries in my workvans for years. A regular battery and a deep cycle battery.

They require an isolator and sometimes special wiring to function properly.

Also, when things go bad, they go bad quick. I always keep a fire extinguisher handy these days. When parts like isolator go defective over years of use things can go very wrong. lol

It is highly recommended that you wire in an isolator that will allow the second battery to charge, but will not allow loads connected to it to draw from the main battery. That way it can't pull the other one down. An RV store should be able to fix you up. It is usually recommended that batteries be of similar sizes so that one does not charge excessively and become damaged in the process...or run down too quickly drawing power from teh other if the batteries are in parallel, feeding the same circuits. I dion't know if there is an electronic device that may help prevent this...you would have to ask at the RV or trailer shop.

Been done

Lamonster had a two battery system in his first GS. Should be able to search and find the post. Sorry but I don't have time to find the link right now.
 
Assessories I installed hd xenon lights that I have running off the battery and hd xenon fog lights and a nice led light setup

The RS has considerably less electronics or load. Even HID's and LED's which draw less power anyway.
Unless your running some big sound system with amps or a big inverter to run power tools I wouldn't worry about it.

:agree: The OP is probably running at about the same or even slightly less amp draw that originally. The exception would be if the LED light show was used with the engine off (or idling) for extended periods. In that case I'd use an isolator and a second battery to avoid depleting the starting battery.
 
Ok update I installed that second battery with the smart isolator and it was a clean install works like a charm

Where did you put the second battery? I'm looking to add a second for the lights but hesitant to give up my frunk.
