• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. seat belt and airbag

Probably a very dumb idea, but would a seat belt and an airbag system be beneficial or even work on the spyder?

I bought a Hit Air jacket that is about as close as you're going to get to an airbag. You're clipped into the bike and if you come off, you inflate. If you forget to unclip when you get off your bike, the jacket does not inflate, in spite of what some think...trust me, I've forgotten plenty of times and never a problem. There is another company, impactjackets, that also makes a similar jacket...I went with the Hit Air due to what I read...the Japanese police use the Hit Air. The owner of the distributor will give a $50.00 discount to anyone from Spyderlovers who buys a coat...just mention my name...his name is Reuben... www.bikebone.com

The jacket is very comfortable, has a liner that is removable, and you know that you have a lot of extra protection should something happen!

I really recommend this jacket for maximum protection while on a bike...better the airbag hits the ground than your shoulder, back, pelvis, etc...

Being a crash reconstruction specialist, I can attest to the damage that is done in pedestrian and auto crashes...air bag technology is great to have and saves lives!

Depends... would you like to be tied to your Spyder as it cartwheels down the road out of control?

It is not a car, you are not protected by a cage. While being thrown from you bike at time of impact can also kill you, I'd rather that happen than be crushed between two vehicles due to my seat belt. :)

My last accident I narrowly missed having my Fazer come over on top of me, hot engine, leaking hot coolant, spilling gas.... Bike and myself were tumbling/sliding the same general direction, but the bike was doing that end over end violent stuff. I can't remember how graceful or not I was... I just remember coming to a stop and looking over to see where the bike was and finding it still coming towards me half up in the air.

I'd invest in one of the airbag jackets if that helps you feel protected. Can't hurt. - But could hurt less.

Speaking as a person who has taken a nasty spill in a motorcycle accident let me tell you I'd rather not be attached to the thing when it goes down, I don't care what you're riding. That's why you dress for the crash, not for the ride. :2thumbs:

Well, they used to be an option on Gold Wings. Don't know if they still do that or not.

I don't know about the airbag since they moved production to the new plant in Japan. But I was at the last Honda Homecoming at the plant in Ohio, In the Summer of 08, they were producing the 09's at that time and the airbag was available. They had a demo of the airbag out in the parking lot, very impressive.

Honda still offers the Goldwing Airbag model. It will cost you more than a Spyder RT-S, though...and you get one less wheel. :D

I always thought a seatbelt would be good when I rode on the back of hubby's Electraglide - because I was always falling asleep.
Not a problem now that I'm riding my own Spyder.

+1 for Hitair jackets. :2thumbs:
I have a mesh summer one and a full length winter one. You take your airbag with you when you leave the bike.:joke:

I guess all these safety things are good and offer security when on the Spyder.
But then it is also safe to sit on it in the driveway and make motor noises.

Part of the ride is the chance - 80 mph perched on this little seat, There are at least two ways of braking wind. This is one of them. plummeting through space and time. Knowing each breath could be your last. Then the thrill of arriving safe and sound. Saying what a ride!

Mike :D:D

You scare me! :yikes::D

Might as well just drive a car

I don't want a seat belt (dangerous on a Spyder IMHO) but my Hitair jacket has no affect in any way on my riding pleasure. You would never know really that the airbag facility was even there UNLESS you were spat of the bike.

I have hit the road from a BMW (in my youth) at 120 KMPH and I don't want to experience that again. However I do want to experience the open air riding that my Spyder provides.

The "thrill" is still there unless part of the "thrill" for you is the possibility of ending up in hospital with a good deal of your skin missing or worse?? :dontknow:

I agree...I've been trying, from time to time, to have Geico reduce insurance if you have hitair/impactjacket. I'm completely biased here, but everyone should wear one as you can't beat the protection it offers. I am one to believe that if you wear proper gear (and even go beyond like with a hitair jacket), your insurance rates should be less than those who wear no gear...it makes sense...a car gets breaks for security system, airbag, antilock brakes, etc...

This will help everyone as proper gear does reduce injuries/death.
