• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SE6 Transmission filter

Has anyone tried to wash a transmission filter?, I'm not being tight, but it seems a lot of money for what looks like a plastic plate with a brillo pad stuck to it, and you just bin it for <> 100 bucks.

Similar filters on my other bikes, the manual tells you just wash it in Gasoline.

I wouldn't wash it..You cant get all the particles out of the filter. And the filter are good for 28000 miles. For 100 bucks I would just change it.. Yeah its not cheap but what would a engine /trans cost you??

What if....

It may seem expensive and we do not have much to go on as many have not changed them as yet. For many it is a couple of years of ryding and others with weather issues even more. For the cost of the spyder and repalcing tranny and or clutch parts seems fair price. Now there are other places to look for the filter, I use cheapcycleparts.com and a search online may net you a few lower price ones. It is a choice same as many feel you don't need to change your oil filter with each oil change but we have seen some fail ....:dontknow:

Ok guys you've convinced me, BajaRon here I come again, just ordered it from BR, it works out 94.21GBP delivered to France, From France or UK it's £120 GBP and I've got to go and get it, If I want it posted add loads more.

How critical is this to 28000 miles, don't think I'll get in time before my holiday, I've got 26300 on the clock and I'm likely to do 2000 - 2500 miles on holiday. meaning the oil will have to wait 'til then aswell, but I do run on Shell full synthetic.

Would be nice if there was an aftermarket one.

I sell the SE6 Transmission filter for $96.50 delivered to domestic locations. And, as agedbikeman says. I will ship them worldwide. I have them in stock and I usually ship the same day payment is received.

You can get them from me on eBay as well. But I have to charge more for them there to cover the eBay fees. It's less expensive to email me at [email protected]

Thanks!

You have already made the right decision on this ( so my comment is moot )....... When you actually get the filter in your hands - you will see that cleaning it wouldn't be possible .... it's a sealed unit .... you would have to break it open to clean it.......jmho ..... Mike

Here's how to do it!

From my 11-16-15 post:

Les (PW2013STL) changed his before the Alaska trip and all went fine without BUDS.
You can read this thread for more info: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...mission+filter

I did my transmission filter on my 2014 RT Limited at 25,858 miles before putting it away this fall. I did ride it a few hundred miles after the oil/filter and trans filter change (before winter storage @ 26,467 miles) and saw no performance issues with shifting, clutching, etc. I think Les put on about 8,000 plus miles after doing his without any issues.

Hope this helps....BTW I bought my transmission filter from BajaRon - you can save a few bucks on it from Ron vs. your dealer. Ron's trans filter did not come with instructions, but it's very simple. JayBros posted the instructions, here they are (found them for you). Note that there is a sequence to torque the bolts - follow the instructions so you torque them in the proper sequence and to the proper torque spec:

Good luck. I just took my time and torqued the bolts back to spec - all went well. No oil leaks and runs just fine. :2thumbs:

My next "challenge" will be installing new spark plugs before riding in the spring - that should be a treat! LOL

Here's a few pics from my install on 10-20-15:

JUST HAD MINE REPLACED TODAY.....
price seems a bit high for such a simple component... must be gold plated inside...
i checked K&N and don't know if they make a replacement, but i couldn't find one....

Thanks for all above, very helpful, think I'm going to have to do my oilchange a bit late, won't get trans filter before I go on holiday, ordered it from BajaRon but I live in France, still, never heard of an engine going bang cos you overran an oilchange by a few hundred miles. BRP always over state most things.

I agree with those who've said that for a 28K service interval the price isn't bad. The reason K&N doesn't make one is that you have an inlet and an outlet to the filter and the user/changer would not be able to tell when the filter is clean, IF one had a device that could allow you to pressurize fluid going into the filter from the discharge side, you know, backflush it. The design concept is the same as an automotive automatic transmission filter. We pay more to have them changed too, or pay the bigger bill to replace the transmission when it goes south.

se6 transmission filter

So just for a laugh I phoned the can am dealer in UK where I've bought a few bits before, "hello" I said, "how much is an SE6 transmission filter, "They haven't got one " he said, "it's called an hcm filter" I said, here's the part number, Oh yes I found it they're 120 GBP he said I didn't know they had one.

I'll steer well clear of this dealer
