• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SE5 Transmission Won't Downshift

Well Spyder fans, I am still trying to enjoy my Spyder but it won't cooperate. The latest glitch is still my transmission. I have ridden it 450 miles after a recent visit to my dealer and it still has a mind of its own. Now the problem is that it will not downshift when coming to a stop. I have to set and wait for the transmission to finally do its thing and get down to first gear. I try and manually downshift with no luck. Everyone lined up behind me at a stop sign has to wait for it to get into first gear. After about 30 seconds, it finally gets there and we can leave. Anybody else about ready to set fire to their SE5 in the dealers parking lot?

Pissed off in Tallahassee!!!!:spyder:

Got 2000 miles on mine no se5 issues. Sorry and hope it gets fixed.

Make sure that you are COMPLETLY off the throttle when coming to a stop, it should start downshifting as RPMs drop. If this does not happen have dealer replace transmission control module under warranty.

downshift

had same problem today after backing up our of garage, went into an "E" mode amd took a few minutes to shift back into N and 1st.

Why?

also make sure your not comming to stops at a high rate of speed too stopping to quickly will make it not downshift correctly either :)

problimatic se5's

I havent had any issues to speak of with my se5 since i bought on oct 17 of this year its ran killer and then all of a sudden it died yesterday. and i dont know why i guess i will figure that out soon as its fixed this week hopfully :)

This post addresses the SE5 shifting problem. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8054
Called my dealer yesterday and they pulled up this notice. My parts are on order and they tell me it will take just a few days to get the parts and about 3 hours to install. I have over 4k miles and have intermittent shifting problems during the first thousand miles and again just recently.

My SE-5 has shifting problems

My 2008 SE-5 has shifting problems too, similar to the ones noted here. Mine will "lock" into a gear and not come out. Bad news when you are on the Interstate and have to try and keep up with traffic. I found out the hard way that the top speed in 3rd is about 35 mph. People around me did not appreciate it.

You have another problem if your top speed in 3rd gear is 35 i can do 40-45 in 1st gear easy.

But there is a service bullitin for the SE5 Shifting problems.

:agree: Are you sure it didn't also go into limp mode?

I'll be the third to agree with this. With my SM5, I have been well over 40 MPH in first. Maybe there is something in the SE5 that is limiting the speed. :dontknow:

Its not an SE5 thing because mine is the SE5 my guess is he was in limp home mode or had something else going on.

This happened to me yesterday came to a complete stop in 5th gear!!!! Never bogged down gave it some throttle and then shifted down:banghead:

Just curious, how many folks with SE5's haven't had any problems? BRP needs to step up.

There was a poll on one of the forums - if I remember correctly it was close to 50/50 problems vs. no problems with shifting on the SE5 -- not very encouraging. But with the warrenty and # of problems out there - a fix will be found and offered.
I love the idea of the electronic shifting, when they are working flawlessly I'll wish I had one
