• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I always worry about the Deer on the roads everytime I ride. There are so many deer in Oklahoma and Arkansas and on every ride I see several (If you see several there are hundreds that you didn't see). I have had some near misses but never made contact.

Wow. very lucky he stayed on the motorcycle.

There are a load of moose around here and they are much much bigger then deer. They are a major hazard and always some to watch for when scanning the roads while riding.

Scary indeed.
Ride safe, everyone.

WOW!! Lucky guy - well, luck combined with the skill to ride it through a hit like that.

As Black Widow said, it's just scary riding where deer are that plentiful. The same is true here in west Texas. I used to really enjoy riding at night during the summer but no more. There are just too many deer and it's impossible to miss one that is determined to get run over. I've hit two in my pickup and I don't ride my bike at night unless I just can't help it.

Very lucky, When those woods rats come out to get you it usually ends with road rash. :yikes: Tapped one with my Spyder he's still running I'm still running, wasn't my day for road rash. Hit more with my Hemi last year than my 45/70, Guess i should change calibers ? :roflblack:

This is so ironic. I just bought a Motorsports Hero Cam last week. And the 1st thing I told my husband was that if would have had the cam he would have gotten to see the deer he hit back in March on his Harley. (Not so sure we really would have wanted to see it :yikes:) But he wasn't as fortunate as the guy in the video. After sliding 75 feet initially doing 55 mph & seven broken bones later he has actually made a remarkable recovery. I'm just Thankful to have him here for the Holidays!

Deer strikes kill about 200 motorist a year in the US. There are about 40,000 deer strikes a year in Pennsylvania alone each year.

Don't ask me how I know such things. Too many nights of being awake at 2 AM I suppose.

Amazing!!! I know One Spyder in Connecticut that won,t be ridden at Night!! Mine!!:spyder2:

I had a close encounter with a deer, a turkey, and a turtle (LOL!) while in Tennessee over the past September while on my Spyder. The turkey was on the Tail of the Dragon. Not nearly as close as a car got to me in a parking lot once. Idiot.

There are deer all over the place where I used to live in Indy. Used to scare me to drive at night out there. nojoke

Another interesting tidbit about deer - the deer population has grown exponentially over the past couple of hundred years, due to the diminishing number of their natural predators (primarily wolves). The deer population in North America is now higher than it was when Columbus landed in 1492. :chat:

As has been mentioned by others in this thread, I too try to avoid riding at night as much as possible. The wood rats are everywhere!

I absolutely agree except that here in Texas the worst predator the deer had was screwworms (blowflies). A program to eradicate screwworms that was started some forty or so years ago has been very successful and, as a result, deer have really multiplied. Landowners in Texas make almost as much money leasing their land to hunters as they do with other crops, more in some years.

Here in North Jersey once the farms went to houses the deer population exploded. Farmers kept the deer pop. down to protect their crops.
New home owners love to grow stuff the deer love to eat. Then complain about the deer eating their stuff. :dontknow:

One of the first things I noticed was that the faces and plates were blurred out as well in the video. Don't need that kind of evidence coming back to haunt him.

We are also overrun with deer around our place. A couple of years ago I totaled out my 1992 Ford Ranger by collecting a 180 pound 8 point buck in the engine compartment. There is no way I would ever want to experience that impact on a motorcycle. :yikes:
