• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am in the market for a used Spyder. What I thought would be a breeze of online searching has turned into a huge headache. I am discovering on most of the online sale sites, people are listing the same Spyders with the same description from different areas. They are not legit sellers seeking to scam people out of their money. Does anyone know of LEGIT sites I can search for used Spyders with LEGIT sellers I can contact and eventually have a productive buy? HELP!!! :-( Any useful tips will be helpful. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

They will put them on a truck and deliver them to the front of your house you cannot get any easier

I know not what you seek but why not try the selling board on this site. Take a look at mine, even since I listed it, I have added Farkles, this is a great Byke, come and get it, always inside, serviced more often than recommended, looks great runs better.

There is no way in h*** that I would buy a USED Spyder off eBay. It's too risky without seeing it and driving it. To each their own but not me. Craigslist is tricky! Once you learn how to weed out the scammers it's not that bad. I have gotten some of my best deals off Craigslist.

Good luck!!!

Dealerships?

Are there any dealerships in your area ? I know you may pay a little more ( sometimes) at a dealership but likely the machine has been checked out and serviced properly. Buying private there is no recourse if anything is wrong with it plus unless you are VERY mechanically inclined you will want a dealer ( service Dept) especially with your first Spyder . A test Ryde of a couple different Spyders is also a good idea for many reasons . Good luck :riding:

:welcome:
I can't tell you where to buy your bike, but I can tell you that when you find the right one: it'll be worth it! :D :2thumbs:

Oh! If it sounds to good to be true: it is!! :gaah:

Try looking out here in the for sale area. The only problem is that most sellers tend to way over-value their Spyders.. especially if they're pretty new ones.
You can still find brand new 2015 models at great prices from dealers. Look around. Make phone calls.

The sites are legit... It's the sellers that are not. I've seen bogus Spyders for sale on eBay as well. You just have to be careful.

Gotta say...

Going used can be tricky. Especially when long distance. Used at dealers is always a bit more expensive but safer and going with sites like this one with known member are also good. Search here and other spyder sites on facebook hopefully close to you....

Buying used can be a bit daunting. Authorized dealers are good--but you will pay for that. The SL site is also good. Most of the people are well known as well as the history of the particular machine. Pricing by private parties, most of the time, is on the high side. Accessories add to the sale, but most buyers are not willing to pay squat for them. A price a little below trade in, seems to be what is moving the :spyder2: these days--when it comes to private sales. There are a lot of scams out there. Caveat Emptor.

Thank you all for your much needed advice. I have to admit the excitement to purchase a Spyder overwhelmed the potential scams that are actually out there. I'm from a small town and the closest dealer is about an hour away. With my work schedule, I can only visit them during the weekends when I'm not busy. So I decided to check out the sales online in the mean time. Who knew there were so many dishonest people in the world (sarcasm). Since I'm hard on any type of machinery...lol...and this will be my first Spyder (not last), I thought I'd purchase a used one to "learn" on. That way my next one (yes, there will be a next one) can be all brand new and shiny and I will know what I'm doing and what's under the hood. I am enjoying reading the posts, esp the "Do's and Don't" post...I am learning so much. I can't wait when I can meet up with the SpyderLovers...on my Spyder. Thanks again, after consideration, I just may go to a dealer or do my search in SL forum.

No matter from who or what I order on-line, I ALWAYS try to pay thru PayPal if available. they are an excellent 3rd party payment system and WILL INTERVINE for you if there are any issues.

I had good luck buying both my Spyders off CL. The first was from Wisconsin. The seller was forthright about his identity and where he worked. He was a sales person for a Cadillac dealership. His name and face were on their website, and going with the idea that someone in that position wasn't going to do something to screw up his career, I had all the confidence I needed to buy the bike unseen.

The second one I bought from a motorcycle dealership connected to a car dealership outside of Seattle. Here again I found information that substantiated the seller as a legitimate business. When I sold my Goldwing 3 years ago I Googled the name of the serious potential buyer. In that case I found him to own a plumbing business and his name and number were public.

So I guess what I'm saying is there are honest sellers out there. A first start is to get as much information from them as you can so that you can verify via public records and information who they are. Look on Google Street View for the address they give. Does that image agree with what they're saying? If they're real, you can learn about them. If they're scamming, you will have a hard time verifying them.

A local buddy just searched locally, and I fed him many listings from here, but he chose one from a dealer less than 2 hours away, and was glad he did, whilst taking the test ride one of the gauge's (on an RT) wasn't working properly and the dealer is replacing it (no price change) before delivery.
He feels better knowing he's at least got that level of service and response.

Nothing is worth more, than something that you're trying to sell...
And nothing is worth less, than something that you're trying to buy...

The definition of a good deal is when both parties agree on the sale/purchase.

To elaborate on Bob's comment, a person will make the purchase when "THEIR" perceived value meets or exceeds the price. It is that simple, unless my wife just said no, of course. :shemademe_smilie:
