I've been in the market for a custom seat. Currently I'm running with the BPR 'Comfort Seat', which for me isn't all that comfortable. I've got a banged up left leg that doesn't bend all that well, so I need to be higher and farther back than the seat alone allows. Using a 2" closed cell foam pad with an Airhawk on top gets me comfortable for about an hour and a half worth of riding before my butt needs a serious break. I tend to slide back and take up a few inches of the passenger seat too, since that combo of pads sets me about level with the passenger.
So, having taken all that into consideration, I've decided to have a seat maker come up with the seat with the correct height and depth that would make me comfortable for an all day ride.
After reading all the website propaganda from the major seat makers...Corbin, Ultimate, Daylong, Mayers, et al..... I decided to go with the Kontour Seat...Magnum version. After customizing thier standard build to make it 2&1/2" higher so I can stretch out my leg, and robbing 2" from the passenger area so I can sit further back, the bill with return shipping added is gonna come darn close to $1300 USD.
Does this sound remotely sane to y'all? I'm new to riding, but I do know a comfortable seat is one of the most important parts on the machine...... but that price made me drop my jaw just a bit.:yikes: Is this what I would expect from the other seat builders too once I had all the custom work added on?
I'm ready to send in the seat and the check, but I just wanted some feedback from folks with more experience to tell me if this is crazy or not.
