• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sanity check, please.

I've been in the market for a custom seat. Currently I'm running with the BPR 'Comfort Seat', which for me isn't all that comfortable. I've got a banged up left leg that doesn't bend all that well, so I need to be higher and farther back than the seat alone allows. Using a 2" closed cell foam pad with an Airhawk on top gets me comfortable for about an hour and a half worth of riding before my butt needs a serious break. I tend to slide back and take up a few inches of the passenger seat too, since that combo of pads sets me about level with the passenger.

So, having taken all that into consideration, I've decided to have a seat maker come up with the seat with the correct height and depth that would make me comfortable for an all day ride.

After reading all the website propaganda from the major seat makers...Corbin, Ultimate, Daylong, Mayers, et al..... I decided to go with the Kontour Seat...Magnum version. After customizing thier standard build to make it 2&1/2" higher so I can stretch out my leg, and robbing 2" from the passenger area so I can sit further back, the bill with return shipping added is gonna come darn close to $1300 USD.

Does this sound remotely sane to y'all? I'm new to riding, but I do know a comfortable seat is one of the most important parts on the machine...... but that price made me drop my jaw just a bit.:yikes: Is this what I would expect from the other seat builders too once I had all the custom work added on?

I'm ready to send in the seat and the check, but I just wanted some feedback from folks with more experience to tell me if this is crazy or not.

The other seats are mass produced, saving time and money. Yours, I would assume, is a one off item which they had to make allowances for. They also don't have any durability data on the new seat and they are practicing CYA tactics. There is nothing wrong with the way they're doing it, even though it sucks.

seems high to me when you can still get a mustang seat for 550 $,and there grate seats, but not custam,so if you got the cash and it makes you happy go for it.:chat:

I have a somewhat similar physical problem.
I solved it by purchasing ISCI foot pegs, altering them to go as low as possible and buying a ISCI handbrake that I consider almost a necessity to any ryder who has highway pegs.

The seat is stock.

I already took care of my leg problems for the most part with Seal floorboards. Now I'm trying to fix my sore butt problem. At this point I'm good for around a hundred miles before a break, but I'd like a seat that I can go fill-up to fill-up with, for serious trips.:doorag:

Your situation is very common. I have back and hip issues that have put a crimp in some of my riding. I had to give up the two wheeler last summer.

For me it was a combination of playing around with seats, backrests, floorboards, and seat cushions.

I now use a Corbin seat--off the rack. They will do custom things based on your measurements or requests though. I also have a Corbin driver back rest. Seal Floorboards, and use a combination of a sheepskin/gel cushion or/and an Airhawk cushion. The cushions come out based on the "pain of the day."

Have also heard good things about the Kontour--so you are on the right track. Also agree--none of this is inexpensive.

:hun: I'm coming from about six hours past you to get there...
We'll have two 600 mile days back-to-back in order to make Springfield...
Tylenol; it works wonders! :D

That's right! (Sorry Dave; I forgot... :opps:) he can gel up your seat and have your butt "sitting pretty" in no time! :2thumbs:

Seats are a very individual thing. (see MANY threads). I have had Russel's Mustangs, Ultimates, Corbins, stockers, and a half dozen others. Only the Corbin has been the perennial keeper for me. I have a Corbin with the Lamont cut on my RT, can do 600 mile days, and, coupled with the Seal Floorboards, can imagine a more comfortable setup.

diy

get seat foam - 1/2 - 1 inch tick about 3 square feet in total at most
take off seat cover
glue on seat foam, layer by layer tip you reach your own desired hight
get a fine steel saw plate and shave off as much as you need in an 1/2 - 1 inch wide strips shaping/conturing your new future seat - at this stage you play as you like and dont worry if you take off more, you can still ad a layer or two and cary on
get enough vinyl seat cover ( now you can even pick a colour :-) man )
staple on at one end, securely and continue stapling well stretched vinyl all the time neatly towards other end
done
$50
enjoy

I can appreciate your sentiment that it's an easy fix; for the person who isn't terrified of taking a perfectly good seat apart and attacking it with sharp tools!
