Ryker Frunk Lock Won't Open - any ideas?

Hi,
Bought my 2019 Ryker from a guy a couple months ago. Frunk lock has worked fine several times since. It is locked now, and the key rotates fine, but I cannot get it open. I did finally get the lock /tab to rotate, and I thought I might just get it to come out. Now it is just loose, but I can't seem to get it to loosen any more toward taking it out completely. Any ideas of what action is next before I take it to a locksmith? Thanks, Chuck

Do a search on this. There is a fix on how to get it to open. Also how to attach a cable hidden in case it happens again. Tom :spyder:

Getting the lock out will not help you. It is a major undertaking to get to the cables attached to the bottom of the keyset. You can't do it from the top.

Guys - this is the Ryker forum - it's a drilled lock add on for a 2019. It's not at all like the cable actuated frunk locks on the Spyders.

That said, not sure what options you really have. You can't take the glove box out and take it apart because you can't get to the pins/etc until the lid is open. If you can't fidget with the lock and get it to work - you are likely going to need a locksmith or drill it out. You do know that once unlocked, you still have to use the "push down/release" method to get the lid to open, right? The lock just prevents you from using the spring-loaded opening.

Thanks Joshua. Glad it's not a Spyder but at least if it was there would be an easier work around.

Reminder to self, "look at the forum section at least when you're too lazy to look at the signature line".

Thanks for your offers of help guys, even you Spyder guys, any attempt at help is appreciated.

So, I managed to wiggle the lock loose and when enough of it was exposed and knowing it was all plastic, I just cut it off. The problem of it sticking so bad was probably because the install was done wrong. You are supposed to remove the little crossbar on the lid (to disable the normal closing latch). They did not remove that bar. So, the lock and the bar were creating a lot of sticking of opening the frunk. I did not take out everything as I should have. I figured that now, if I just closed the lid, the bar would latch, and I would have the friction latch holding it shut. Well, I closed it (after oiling the latch), and now I can't get it open again. Mind you, I have not used maximum force yet, don't want to break the lid.

So, Joshua, do I have it correct that the little cross bar on the lid latches into the metal latch at the front of the frunk opening? If I know it should just slip out of that latch, I will apply more pressure. I want to get it open and since the hole is already cut, I will probably just replace the locking latch from Sling-mods. At least it will fit the hole. Thanks again guys and girls.

The End of the Saga
Well, as I guessed above, the original latch and bar (that should have been removed on install of the keyed lock) were just so tough, that I could not force it open again. I finally was able to see along side the lock and see the place where it should open. I drove an awl into a little space in there and that opened the stock latch. More luck than repair guy skills. The close to the story is that I cut off the lock for nothing, it was not the problem. As the big hole is already there, I have a new one on order to replace the one I cut off. AND, I have already taken that cross pin from the lid out, like the previous owner should have done, or had done by the dealer. Thanks everybody, I intend to keep cruising the forum. Chuck
