• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Ryker 900 stutter / hesistation in reverse

Here is my dilemma.

I changed the the rear tire and took it to discount tire to get mounted on rim.
I took it off the bike and remounted it after I got the tire shop to put the new tire on.
While it was off I changed the final drive fluid.
Bike drove fine afterwards

Today when I was driving I decided to give it WOT I hit 90mph and a loud beep came on, dash said vss and check engine light came on.

I took the bike off and turned it back on, it drove fine the rest of the way home.

Here is the issue.
When I put it in reverse it stutters and shakes when I give it gas it gets better but this is all new.
In fwd it drives fine.

What do y’all think ???
Check engine light is off and there was no vss on dash after I restarted it

I have 6700miles 2020

Start by checking the rear speed sensor and wiring for anything that could have been affected by wheel removal.

The rear speed sensor cable assembly has a connector at one end and the sensor at the other.
The sensor mounts similar to a crank or cam position sensor: One bolt hole, with a metal sleeve reinforcing the plastic.
The sensor points at the reluctor (tone ring), which has slots for inputs to the sensor.

When removing the rear caliper, to pull off the wheel with the disc, was anything done with the sensor?

Gap is important. When Triumph had issues with crank position sensors on the New Triumph Bonnevilles (2009 first year of EFI), the specified gap was changed from 1 mm to 0.8 mm and problem solved.

Great to know !
I had no clue when I was doing so, I just took the caliper off and laid it down.
I will go back and take the wheel off and look through everything

Also it’s good to know about the gap.
I will re-seat the tire.

Thank you for your help!

Doubt you need to remove anything. Just inspect the rear VSS.
I would send you better photos, but the Ryker is no longer in the garage.

This thread has some photos, but not sufficient for the sensor

Hopefully other Ryker riders will help with more appropriate photos.

This link has most sensor part numbers

And when it is time for spark plugs, this may be helpful:

So I took the wheel off looks like everything is intact
I even made sure the wheel was seated close in and there was no play.
I also unplugged the battery for 20 minutes

Same thing happens :/
It very jerky fwd and worst in reverse only at slow speeds

There’s also a squeaking noise coming from the cvt belt area
It just coincidental that the belt is faulty when I just did the tire change and final drive change

It's time for a new belt!!! Clean your clutches while your there! Soap and water will work, let it dry put it back together and ride it!!

New here, but would a 2020 with 6700 miles need a new belt or clutch adjustment ?

From what he's saying that's where I would start, no matter how many miles he got! If he's not hearing any grinding going on. it could be his belt slipping. Just my thoughts

So I finally got a service appointment, looks like the rotor is bent so that’s what caused the vibration at low speeds and more than likely caused the vss check engine light.

I took the tire to get swapped out there but discount tire probably didn’t care and bent my rotor while doing so, now I know for the future that I won’t be going there.

About the reverse problem - Mine was doing the same thing and the solution was to adjust the shift handle. It wasn't going all the way to the stop. Next time iet happens, try applying a bit of force to make sure the lever is all the way over.

Ok
Hopefully they have the issue fixed before I get it back
But with parts and all there is a two week wait before the rotor comes in
