• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT Windshield question

I went by my local Can-Am dealer the other day and while there was looking at the 2013 RT's on the showroom floor. What caught my eye was the 2013 windshield has two cutouts on the lower section that my 2012 does not. The cast aluminum bracket that the windshield mounts to has two triangular cutouts on both models, but the windshields are different!?:banghead:

Anyone else notice this?

The local dealer has not been keeping any on the floor so it is hard to. I plan on going by Saturday if it is not raining will look and see.
 
They changed that from the 2012's to help with the wind buffeting. I bought a Cal-si windshield for my 2012 that has a whole cut in the windshield and it makes a huge difference. If I had it to do over again I would of just modified my windshield with the holes like the 2013's have. If you are handy with woodworking tools it would be an easy free mod.

I thought about doing the GL1500 windshield vent for additional air flow....I can buy one for $50. BUT.....if I were to cut holes like the 2013 windshield, it would be a very cheap mod.

My issue with just cutting holes is the need to polish the cut (rough) edges. If I install the GL1500 vent, the vent will cover the rough edges. It may be time to dig out the Dremel tool....DECISIONS, DECISIONS....
 
those two cutouts on the 2013 windshield do a very effective job of reducing buffeting. I put one on my 2010, and have been very happy with the results. :thumbup:

If you can get a GL windshield vent for $50 and install it on the OEM windshield I would go for it. The vented BRP windshield is $350 and you can only open or close the vent. I believe that the GL vent not only opens but it can also be directed up or down. I liked the BRP vent but being able to direct the air flow seems like the way to go.

Hmmmm.... This maybe something I might do if what you say is true!
I do have buffeting issues on the freeway when close to the divider wall with cars next to me. So bad that I start to apply a death grip!

I figure if I screw it up cutting the holes, I can just get the BRP one. For me I have nothing to loose.

As for finishing off the cut and polishing, google search that! It's not that hard and you can even do it with a dremel!

Do you ride with the windshield all the way up? That caused buffeting for me so I always rode with it almost all the way down.
 
Does rain flow thru the holes very much? How about cold wx riding...much air thru them?

I don't get any significant buffeting except behind/beside 18 wheelers. The Elka's and Ronbar solved most of that problem.

When on the freeway or over say 50 I ride with it all the way down. Up is way too much buffeting around!
It's also probably me as I am 6'4" so my body is causing some of it.

I've run mine through some real "Toad Strangler" storms... it's not an issue at all! :thumbup:

Cold weather? Again; it's not an issue, it just sort of smooths out the airflow so that you get less buffeting at highway speeds
 
Windshield Buffering

I see people out here in Northern AZ having problems with the winds we have plus add the big trucks it really makes it rough and takes the enjoyment out of it. Now I have a couple sights for you: 1- http://www.spyderrt.info/1_5_U-DO-IT.html were you can put a Honda Goldwin vent in the shield. The other is 2- http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/SpyderRTprod.html people I have talked to that have gotten this one loved it and the reviews were great on it. Now I got mad due to the winds and went and cut a hole in mine much like what they have and I am so glad I did. Now with a street tire in the rear, new sway bar in front plus now the windshield I get very little buffeting in the wind or pass a big truck at 75-80 on our highways (speed limit 75). That isn't the only bonus you get you lose the suction pulling heat up from the rear making it more comfortable for the passenger on a hot day. Riding in the rain it cuts down the amount of water coming off of the top of your shield. Hope this helps you out. :spyder2: RT Spyder 2012 Ltd.
 
I'm 6'1" tall. I'd have to rank my cal-si extra large vented windshield as my #2 favorite mod on my 2012 rt. I usually run it so I can just see over the top of it, but there are times when I'm going down the freeway or during rain and I'll run it so I'm looking through it. The buffeting is greatly reduced in any position. If you feel where the wind is going with your hand you can feel it till about the back edge of the dash then it just disappears and mixes in with the air surrounding the rider. Rain is not an issue, but I have felt one or two big bugs that found their way through the hole.
