• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT Splash Panel

What kind of issues can or will occur if when you change oil that you leave off the splash panel?

thanks

You'll have the issue of much faster and easier oil changes and the issue of not trapping more heat. :doorag:

1500 miles & no issues here

:agree: Followed Lamontsters Oil Change thread (ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL :firstplace:) & left mine off as well & haven't had any negative issues to report in over 1500 miles :2thumbs:

I am also thinking about leaving mine off. Does it provide any meaningful engine protection; is there any negative to not putting it back on? I am just double checkig since I like making the oil change easier, but I always am obedient and sometimes dumb and follow the manufactures directions.

I took mine off after Lamont suggested it. Much easier oil changes and I noticed cooler temps and no negative consequences.

Pardon the interruption... Would someone be kind enough to link us the Lamonsters tip? I searched and cannot seem to find the correct wording to pull it up. Thank you!

I beleive that the spash shield is just that, to keep rocks and water from getting up under the Roadster. On a car, this might be a problem, but with the front wheels well outboard of the body, I can't see where it would be in this case. The only thing that I would add is, when I was looking for the panel that Lamonster notes in his step-by-step oil change article, the panel to remove looks quite large in the photo. This panel is actually fairly small, so look for a small-ish panel in the area stated.

In theory these are designed to be ridden on fairly clean, clear paved streets, so rock protection is probably a tangential issue at best... ;) Mine will lose some panels once I crawl up under it with some tools and peek up its skirt...
