I found myself (I think like many of you) that I needed a place to stretch my legs out a bit even on the RT as I have bad knees. Even though the RT is much more comfortable than my SM5 I still found moving my legs a bit really help me out.
Like many people are doing, I found myself resting my feet on the side "air wings" along side the RT. These wings although plastic were very comfortable. Although not ment to be stood on, I found they did a very good job allowing me to rest my feet on them.
Only problem was, I found my shoes were putting scuffs into the plastic and I did not like the way the top of these were beginning to look.
I decided it might be a good idea to make some Scuff Guards for the top of these "wings" to help keep them from getting scuffed and looking all beat up.
Here are a few shots of the Scuff Guards I made, and although the natural aluminum looks OK, I an going to have the final units Hard Coat Black Anoidized with the accent lines then cut into them.
They turned out to be alot harder to "get right" than I ever tought they would have been. I don't know just how many revisions I made, or just how long it took to get these done but I know I burned some "midnight oil" getting these done for sure.
I rode with these all weekend, and they were fantactic! Any of you who have alredy rested you feet there know the plastic does flex a bit, but with the additional mount I also made for the wing it is now more than strong enough to rest my feet on no problem.
Of course at 315 lbs. I would not want to stand on them, but that's not what they are made for ether.
I found they worked wonderful in giving me a place to move my feet to without "feeling guilty" about scuffing up the tops of the wings and having them look bad.
