• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT-S with new owner - of course something breaks :(

Wonderful ride to Charlotte and a nice half-day spent with new owner. Got a call this morning that the frunk won't latch....:banghead:

Never had the issue on the 12 or this 14, he already tried removing the rolling luggage out, and tested the latch by hand and it works fine.

All i've ever done it let it close by gravity, didn't want to have him slam, any ideas what might be going on?

Otherwise, I'm on a nice FJR now. Will be putting a front tire and a bunch of farkles on over the long weekend. Pretty good chance I'll be running into folks up in the smokies during spyder time, looking to finalize plans with a riding buddy over the next few days and make reservations out where Doc is staying.

I have had the same issue. First make sure the seal around the compartment hasn't come off somewhere preventing full closure. Next try using a finger to press the latch down and see if it works. It may be a need for a little lubricant on the latch mechanism or the cable that actuates it. Also try turning the ignition key to lock and unlock several times as it could get stuck with the cable retracted. Also insure that the screws on the lid itself haven't loosened and allowed the latch pin to move.

Thanks Eric and Bill

I have pushed the latch down with my fingers - no problem with movement, but it retracts when released.

Then I used a long bolt to activate, but again it retracts.

Bill, I'll lock and unlock the bars several times and see if that helps. I haven't gotten adept yet with that procedure. The key will not lock or unlock without a lot of wiggling and finally just turns very smoothly.

Thanks
-Bill

Halfway There

Bill/Eric, I locked the bar a couple of times (page 42 of the Operator's Manual listed as Glove Box in the table of contents).

That did result in the lid being locked. I had previously locked the bars a couple of times, but didn't detect the lid being locked.

Now to unlock the lid. Page 43 has directions, and they are push down on the key, turn 1/4 counterclockwise, hold while lifting cover. I'm doing something wrong here. Am I supposed to just lift the cover while the key is rotated counterclockwise?

That's how I unlock mine to open it. Push down on key and turn counterclockwise, while holding the key in that position, pull up on the trunk lid. I wish it would just pop up, but it doesn't....makes for some awkward moments. :sour:

Success

I got it. Depress the key (FIRST) and then rotate counterclockwise, and the release mechanism produces an audible signal. Then the cover locks when I close it. I think I was rotating and then depressing the key.

Thanks so much.

Thanks, I just wasn't following the directions - push down on the key (FIRST).

A lot of owners installed a light spring on the frunk to alleviate that problem. Do a search and probably find several posts dealing with that problem.

I agree - had a spring installed on my '08 - back then there were many posts about Frunk lid springs - even had a suggested part number at local hardware store --- that is how I found my spring. I have no idea of that part number - maybe someone on the Forum remembers (or the Search function of the Forum??)

My 2012 had an electric frunk switch, I don't know why it was dropped later, but you can buy it as a kit and install. The electric seemed to have a stronger spring and when you hit the frunk release switch it 'popped' up.

Glad to hear it's working correctly now, it's a bit of a stretch to push down, turn, and lean over and lift lid. BRP must want to keep us limber.

I had this issue also and had to TAP key ( while in ignition ) with the palm of my hand, to get it to lock.........After about 3 months it cured itself...........Also putting A SPRING on the RT is difficult.....What does work is to put some pieces of left over " CARPET TYPE FOAM RUBBER " into hinge area .....this gives the lid a bit more push ( to open ) force..........Mike

I found the post on the forum about this part since I would like to have a pop-up frunk. I looked up the part online...$7.99 from BRP and then $12.99 to ship it. :roflblack: Really? I checked out other sites that sold the part (that were listed) still $7.99 and the cheapest shipping that I can find is $9.99. Does this thing weigh a lot? I'm sure they're going to throw it in a padded envelope and put it in the snail mail. I think I'll call my local Can-Am dealer.

Yo Sunshine if you looking for the spring that helps POP open the FRUNK you can buy them at most Hardware stores..............Just a note, you should ask questions before doing things if you want to save money.....There are a few DIY'ers here who have found better and less expensive ways of getting things done......We have PM'd each other about things ......you are always welcome to do that..........Mike

Mike, thanks for the head's up on the hardware store spring. I like saving $$ especially when it's mine I'm saving.;)
Do you happen to know which one I need? I'm guessing the springs come in different sizes.
