• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT power.. or lack there of

2Gunns

RT-S PE#0032
I'm confussed..... my buddy was in Pigion Forge this weekend and saw a couple with a RT ("just like mine" he says), after talking with these folks,
What he came away with his oppinion, which struck me odd.

Lack of Power, es[ecially at Interstate speed ?

I've read several post about lack of power on the RT, comments of Top Speed barely reaching 100. I don't get it....I have experienced the Polar Opposite. I have way more power than I could ever need. Cruise control at 80 on the Interstate and roll all day and dare to say, I have shot past 100 while still in 3rd gear.

So what gives with the Power Haters?

I don't own an rt but think this may be based in how riders drive. If they shift in the low rpm range the spyder could be mistaken for a weak ride. When I started to upshift in the higher range the power of my ride really made itself known.

For some people 1,000 horsepower via nitro and a blower would not be enough (This is for you, Seth. :D) For others, the RT has more than enough. It certainly has enough horsepower to satisfy any legal road speed with a load within the stated loading capacity. Like the discussions about oils, octane, and seats, you will seldom get two people to agree completely on this subject. There is no simple answer!

:agree:

My $.02.... We live in a hilly environment. Having more torque would be welcomed. Everything legal wise is just fine BTW.... It is when we are loaded and ryding in our environment that makes our RT-S go from a simple "Blip" of the throttle to get going to "Cranking" on it for a bit longer so that the RPM.s get us up to speed.

One thing to keep in mind in our personal situation.... One of many laws... We are required to be at the speed of the traffic as we merge unto the HWY's. Not all of the on-ramps are long enough (Not to mention hilly again) to do this without the throttle "Pegged" and we get close a few times to not being up to speed.

Now one up ryding... no issues at all. Does great! Only loaded up for a trip and two up does the lack of torque show up for us in our situations...

I just drove my RT from Ohio to California and back:2thumbs:. I pulled a trailer the entire way. I took CA-24 over the Sierras:clap:. Elevation at Ebbets' Pass was 9000 ft and the RT performed admirably. I traveled at +/- 70 mph with no problem. My top speed (according to the GPS) was 91 mph. I had to drop down to 1st gear to negotiate some of the tight curves.
I don't really see a problem, though.:dontknow:

Cool!

I would like to try this myself.:ani29:

I've got 7,500 miles on my RT and I've cruised along at 80 mph on interstates with plenty of power still left....

Glynnk

did more than 4000 mls - sometimes 2up and a lot of luggage ..
= strong enough and fast enough ..
but heared something about a new engine ..

The RT is faster than any family sedan, faster than most sports cars and wayyyyy faster than a truck.

How much more do we really need?

0-60 in less than 6 seconds is more power than anyone should ever need, but like another poster said, some people would strap a jet engine to their RT and STILL complain about low end torque or fuel efficiency...

There also the fact that I've seen one complainant & his spouse with 700+ lbs sitting on an RT... Ouch! That same guy said his Goldwing was too slow...

:joke:

I am just off a 09 yamaha v-max w/200 hp and concours w/160 hp, the rt-s does feel weak, and kinda acts like a air head harley when needing fifth gear, engine lugs until around 60mph, I can learn the power issue but can't deal with fuel mileage, seams like I am only getting 27 mpg, which with a 6.6 gal tank, at 125 miles I get the fuel light and guage says empty, just my .02, with so many different bikes I have owned I will adapt or maybe pick up a used 2-wheeler just to pound back and forth to work. when asked how it rides I always compare it to a jet ski on the road, lol
