Hi all..
Has anyone done a video on how to remove the backing of an RT mirror. I want to put some turn signals on the inside edge of the mirror but very tentative about removing the outside backing of the mirrors. Seems everyone has trouble.....
Any picks/info/vids would be greatly appreciated.

BRP didn't expect the mirrors to be dis-assembled .....so they made them to stay assembled .....There have been a couple of people here who actually did get them apart but it isn't for the feint hearted .... I added small LED strips to the top inside edge of both mirrors, works great .... after removing the mirror drill a small hole to put the wire through ...then make the connection to the wires inside and the new LED will blink in time with the OEM signal light ........ Why don't you change the reflectors on the rear side of the front fenders to LED's and have them flash with the turn signals. I have them and they are way brighter than anything you are going to put on the mirrors.

Just saying

WELLLLLLL NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT

I'm 99.999% sure He wants the small LED's to let Him know His turn signal has not turned Off ....... This MOD is NOT to warn or announce to Other drivers that the signal is on ....... Mike

CHEVRON BEHIND GLASS

I'm looking through my old thread bookmarks, at least one person has put the Chevron LED's behind the stock mirrors to have turn signals in the mirror.
Here's the thread I remember, http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?50321-turn-signal-on-mirrors
And as I recall a few broke their mirrors :yikes: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ...........I live by the K.I.S.S. principal :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.... Mike

Taking the mirror apart was too much for this feint heart.
I added the stick on arrows to the face of my mirrors.
This may not be the answer you're looking for.

I put the sequential LED's behind mine. It was fun to get them off. (The mirrors that is) I used a putty knife and goo gone. It took awhile, but I got both off without breaking anything. Just go slow.

Muth mirrors

I put the MUTH mirror system on years ago. I used a heat gun on LOW and gently pried the heated glass mirror off its backing to apply the Muth mirror in its place. Not therewhen off and a smart looking chevron when in use . Yes it costs more--- but--- IMHO --- you get what you pay for.

On my first 2011 I removed mirrors and disassembled them an placed LED inside the lower lip. It was tough to get them apart without breaking tabs. For my 2015 I drilled small holes above speakers in to top corners. I installed one bright single LED on each side from radioshack and it was very easy to get wires down and tap into OEM mirror wires. I tapped using a positap just inboard to the OEM plugs so I did not have to mess with them when removing mirror.

I installed a strip of LED lights by drilling a small hole at the end of the strip and fishing the wires out the hole where the existing wires for the turn signal lights run, then spliced them to the existing wires. I did both of our RTLs in about an hour. It's been two years and they still work fine and are very visible to me and someone coming up behind me in traffic.

Hi Lew.
Thanks for the heads up. I took a look at the Muth site and found these spot mirrors with integral LEDs.
Very nice, but a bit pricey.

I might upgrade, but I'm not sure. If I didn't already have arrows, I'd definitely go for this.

Hi all many thanks for the info and short cuts to view items. Lots to ponder.
Cheers Dave

MIRRORS

BRP did expect the mirrors to be taken apart. Heck they even have instructions for doing it to upgrade to the chrome covers.

Here are the instructions.

:hun: ... I'm sure it's because they are not a " SERVICE " item :banghead::banghead: ...... Do you take yours apart on a regular basis :dontknow: ....if so what are you servicing ?????? ........... Mike
