• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT Fog light: Useful or looks only ?

I have an 2011 RT/AC and I was wondering about usefulness of the fogs. Do they actually make a difference at night ?

On many of the cars I have owned, they were there for looks more than anything else. Is it the case on the Spyder ?

I know many like the fact that it makes you more visible, but for those who installed them after the fact, would you spend the money and do it again if you had the choice ?

Fog lights

Thery came on my RTS and I find them most useful on narrow roads at night. They go out a little wider for better sighting of deer - particularly here where we live and many parts of our main road and others are one way and real narrow. Little Refuge RD is also a hazard. They help in fog, but not as much as I'd like.

I have an A/C and it is very useful. Both as additional light while driving and additional lights up front that make your bike more noticeable to other drivers. It was the very first mod I added.

:agree: With the extra lights oncoming vehicles tend to give you a wider berth.
Especially on narrow roads.

I have an RT A/C & I had the dealer install them before I got my ride. Since then I've installed the HID lights in both the headlights & FOG lights. Really lights up the night.

IMO, they are good for visibility to oncoming traffic, but not much else. The RS foglights do some obvious work, visibly lighting the road closer to the Spyder, although as foglights they are limited, since you can't turn off the headlights and you get a lot of reflection back from those. On the RT, the foglights won't even light up my garage door at dusk from ten feet away. I'm not disappointed, since I like them for visibilty, but they could do a much better job of lighting things up, and do double duty like the RS. I think the combination of limited power and the secondary plastic lens limit the beam penetration too much for them to do well. JMHO

I'm in the Scotty camp. Visibility goes up. I run with them on 90% of the time. They do go off if it's dark and I'm following a car or on a 2 lane with oncoming traffic.

Throw another vote on the pile for inreased visibility... Worth every penny if it keeps a cage from turning left in front of me! :yikes:

On my RT-Ltd, they appear to only be for appearance. Both for the bike to look good, and for other motorists to see. As far as usefulness while riding.....nothing.

I have the RSS that I added the fog lights to . There light is wider and lower .

My main reason is so the cagers see me better !

I want to switch all my bulbs to super whites , I would have to assume that would make the fog lamps more useful .

Instead of fog lights, I'd recommend the adaptive running lights from TricLED. When mounted to your fenders, the point in the direction you are turning, and are super bright. IMO they help a lot.

My wife's Limited has them, my RT AC does not but will have them by the weekend. When I see her in the mirror - it has a LOT more light coming at you for visibility. I am all for that so am adding them AND some other LED's.
