RT Exhaust

I'm sure this subject has came up in the past, but here it is again.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a quieter exhaust than the OEM on the RT? Loud pipes were great when I was a kid, but now that I am older quiet is nice.

Hi From Australia, I have had a 2010 rt for six weeks, it was really loud when giving it a bit of stick, a throatie roar, which started to get on my nerves, then I read about the front stay touching the frame, on this forum, and figured that was the problem, the dealer said they are all like that, but I insisted they check it out, and then they found the stay touching, ground a bit of the frame away no big deal, and that made a big difference, but under labour two up I could just detect it still, so spent the last two days with all the panels off, and found even with about 8mm clearence it was still just touching, so took a bit more off and did some other mods, while the panels were off, and now the bike is really smooth and quiet, my cruiser was making more noise, I do not bother with ear plugs only on a long run, I really did think the noise was from the exhaust, but not any more, the diference is remarkable. hope this helps because like you my noise days are over Don

Sounds like you have put some work into that. I'm wanting the Spyder to eventually be as quiet as my Suzuki 650 Burgman Exec was.

I like the CVT, too. A 6th gear would awfully nice in the Spyder, too.

Hi Squid, when I had the panels off, I bought some foil and fibre backed insulation, about 2mm thick and strong, that stuck on great and is heat proof put it on all side panels right over the bits can am put on, cuts down on the heat and the noise, but I also put a few layers over the break master cylinder, because being aluminum and far too close to the exhaust, it got really hot and gives you brake problems, if this forum is anything to go by. after the test ride the cylinder was barely warm! it gets bloody hot in Australia, so I have to sort out the heat problems or the Spyder will be unridable, as it is I will be removing the screen for the summer, I have fitted some perspex deflectors for the heat outlet and removed the splash pan underneath, which should send more 'cold' air over the right side exhaust and I think suck down from the radiator to save the right leg, as it is a lot of the hot radiator air goes behind the panels, and you get hotter and hotter, I also used the same insulation to cover the petrol tank, fidly but well worth it sitting on boiling petrol is not very appealing, thanks for letting me chat, Don :2thumbs:

Or maybe I just need to put new batteries in my hearing aids:shemademe_smilie:

I like the CVT, too. A 6th gear would awfully nice in the Spyder, too.

Two of the last 3 bikes i've owned have 6 speeds, Still have one, unless you do allot of high way driving 6 speeds are a pain,
Also when i do hit 6 i still find my foot trying it find number 7:gaah:
CVT, Or a ''Full'' overdrive top gear, In my opinion would be best.

I chased dits & dahs, packed a PRC-25 around a bit, crawled around with an M-60 some, spent a lot of years in tech control facilities around some of the loudest fans and radios ever invented and made a living off of my ears. Spent a couple of years immediately beneath a twin battery of guns, five years under spot six of the flight deck on the newest LHD. When I managed to get a chance to attempt some sleep I dealt with the ballast tank pumps of the LHD which are beyond crazy loud. Have had severe tinnitus since about 1972 when too close to some very loud big bore guns -- VA said it was self-inflicted which I deny since a Radioman cannot plug his ears (be like telling a radarman to keep his eyes closed. :hun: Life got much better in the weirdroom after getting commissioned.:thumbup: I rode a few helos over the years, too since I spent most of my time in gators.

Your picture doesn't put you at much over 6 feet. How the heck did you get into the coast guard. bwahahaha :roflblack:
