RT back end improvement

A couple of months ago I posted a pic of my RT's back end and asked if anyone had any suggestions for improving the looks back there. Two SL folks posted pics where they had made a small change that really improved the look of the machine IMO.

So here are the results of my changes.

Back fender is now color matched to the rest of the Spyder and striped to blend in with the rest.

I perked up the trailer hitch a bit by adding chrome trim to the side plates.

I'm happy with the results.

Your "rear end" looks awesome! You gave me a great idea as I have a Perl White 2014RT Limited and do not like the rear looks?? were you able to get the matching white paint from your dealer?? thanks for sharing.

Questions, questions, questions

Did you have to remove and disassemble the rear cargo assembly? Did your paint shop have to use any special additives to get the paint to stick to the black plastic? Does it show road dirt more now that it's white?

This is a two stage paint so it takes multiple applications to get a match. Spyders are painted with water based paint in Canada as acrylic and enamel are illegal there. Buying paint from a CanAm dealer would mean you would need water based equipment to apply and not too many places have that equipment and if they do it will be expensive.

just take the fender to any good body shop along with the side panel from your Spyder. They can color match from that. Or do it yourself with late model Toyota pearl white. I understand it is a very close match.

A total of 12 screws to remove the fender....4 in the back case and 4 in each side case unless you have a trailer hitch and then you need to remove the wiring connections. You also need to unplug the license light.
light sand entire fender and clean with regular thinner or paint reducer.
road dirt? I never ride on dirty roads.

..................................That's how I did my Dash surround ......I used " DUPLI-COLOR PERFECT MATCH " 8 oz. aerosol can......The color is called Toyota white Pearl......It's translucent and it does have the metalic base in the paint already...........I prepped the plastic and then put down a coat of " plastic paint primer " in light gray.......................If you don't do this , it will take a lot of the White Pearl to change the color because it's translucent and you are going from Black to White .............Trust me on this , you don't want to try without painting the black first...............These cans sell for about $ 8.50 ea.....so figure at least two cans.......buy three and maybe return one .............go for it ..............Mike :clap::clap::clap:
