RT (2016) pulling a Can Am trailer

Tried a search and didn't see anything. For those trailer owners out there, does the Spyder really pull them as nicely as I've heard ? Thanks.

did a 2K trip a few weeks ago and really didn't know I was pulling it.

I mounted a cooler to the front and loaded up the trailer. No problems

Have a escapade trailer and like that too..

Yes, you won't even know it is there. I've pulled my 2010 RT-622 trailer for nearly 100,000 miles and I love it. I have heard that the new Freedom trailer is just as good to tow and since it weighs a little less than the 622 you might even get better gas mileage with it.

For sure....

:agree: Ann would know....and they do go loaded....Keep within the spec's +/- and you have to remember it is there....

I have pulled a 622 trailer and now pull a Freedom Trailer, absolutely no problems, most of the time you don't even know it is there. Pack it right and it will haul a lot of stuff.

ABSOLUTELY

I have the 622 trailer....pulled behind my 2014 RT...transferred to my 2016 F3....don't even know it is back there...and my trailer is full of "stuff"....I am not a slow driver and I prefer twisties and mountain roads!! Have many Spyder ryders that pull other brands of trailers...everyone says pull like not even there....
Yep...that 1330 engine is 'da bomb'...

I've pulled this self-made trailer with the 2013 RT I had and the 2014 RTS I now have for well over 10,000 miles. As you can see it is not aerodynamic in shape and weighs on the order of 400 to 450 lbs. The only time I can tell it is back there is during braking. It does cause some increase in braking distance, but nothing serious. The greatest impact is on gas mileage and pulling power. If I'm fighting a headwind going uphill at 70+ mph my mileage will drop to around 20 mpg and I have to drop into 5th gear. Generally I get somewhere between 25 and 30 mpg depending on speed (usually 70+) and headwind.

I would suggest you buy or make as small and light a trailer as you can get by with for whatever you want to use it for. There are many posts here about home-made trailers that work great, and other manufacturers' trailers other than BRP. Buy whatever suits your needs and pocket book the best, be it Can Am or other.

I know you asked about the BRP trailer but I thought I would chime in about our experience towing trailers in general. The wife tows our Combi-Camp camper with her 2014 RTL with no problems, the only noticeable things are acceleration and stopping are a bit slower as we load it up with camping stuff. I tow a Harbor Freight Tag-Along with my 2013 RS and have no problems at all. The Tag-Along is not usually as heavily loaded so accelerating and stopping don't change much.

Just don't forget the trailer is back there when maneuvering, especially when backing up!

IMG_1055.jpgOver 12,000 miles pulling a Bunkhouse camper with cooler on the front. Had a Yamaha Venture Royale before that I towed the same trailer with. The 2015 Spyder LTD tows it way better and with much more ease.

2014 RT-S with 2015 Freedom Trailer

I have a 2014 RT-S pulling a 2015 Freedom Trailer. The trailer tracks perfectly straight when changing lanes, does not bounce due to the independent suspension and barely affects the acceleration. It tows so well that the only thing to get used to is the fact that you sometimes forget you are towing it and could possible hook other cars and buildings that you are near. Don't overload it and you should never have an issue.

Towing Trailer

Did 2500 miles with our new '16 RTL and Freedom trailer last month. After 20 years with different Goldwings and Bushtecs I can say the Spyder was equal in every aspect save one. Gas mileage really suffered. Gl 1800 always was over 40 MPG riding 2 up at interstate speeds. Spyder went from 40 local to 30 MPG 2 up pulling the Freedom on the interstates. Other than the capacity compared to a Bushtec, the Freedom and the RTL are a great combination. I REALLY wish BRP still offered colors on the Freedom, just anal I guess! Although I never owned a Bushtec with a leaking suspension, it was nice not to have to worry about adjusting the air suspension according to the load during the entire trip. Not to mention the Freedom is around half the cost of a new Bushtec. I would say you should have no qualms about the Freedom, it always pulled straight, no bouncing just a good all around trailer to supplement the storage on your Spyder!

Pull my 622 trailer with my 2014 RT Limited with no problem with and without load. Hauled 30 12-pack of pop with no trouble.

Pulls em all like a pick-up truck!

I think Can Am acting selective about what you tow is a lot more bout money than safety...I toe a HF trailer behind mine as Can Am's is waaaaaay too rich for my blood...(Have had trailer weight over 550 lbs before too with a lot of camping/cooking gear) It tows it better than any other bike I know....The antilock brakes keep you straight in extreme braking situations and get you stopped....And when that Ultra Limited is having a time pulling itself out of that slick muddy campground, that Spyder hooked to a trailer will snatch it up that wet grassy muddy hill like a pick-up truck....I actually helped a buddy with a Rushmore Ultra get his BIKE and TENT CAMPER Out of a muddy campsite before going back down to get mine...He just stood there shaking his head... Sooooo many benefits the Spyder has, too many to list....Don't sweat it, just do it!!!

I tow an Aluma trailer

My Aluma trailer is a bit bigger than the Can-Am trailer, and weighs right about 200 lbs.

I'm in agreement with the majority of those who have posted - I don't know it's back there. I suspect that the trailer and luggage come in at less than 300 lbs and it tows just fine.

I think this speaks to the design of the bike rather than the trailer.

Weight considerations

I am in the hunt for a trailer, and what is most interesting is that the BRP622 is about 90# less than the small aluminum trailers. That equates to more payload available. Thus technically, better economy on an equal load.
