• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. RSS Brake Squeal and Odd Sounding Downshift

I have a 2012 RSS and I have 1600 km on it. 400 that I have put on myself as I bought it used. Is it normal for the brakes to be squeaky? I also noticed today on my way back to work an unusual downshift from 2 to 1 that made more of a loud clunk that the usual downshift sound. Any thoughts?

Squeek is normal though as I have more miles on my bike, has reduced. Site sponsor BajaRon has breakpads that are quiet (though I haven't purchased them yet).

Assuming you have an SM5?? If so, I get that sometimes when I downshift while going to fast (not sure why but that is the case) so I end to wait to downshift to around 25mph or less and no hard clunk. If you have an a SE5 can't offer any insight.

sqeeky brakes

your brake pads are still new. you might try some crc disc brake quiet on the back of your pads. it worked on mine. or buy new pads from baja ron. can't help you with the shift noise:dontknow:

The Gen 3 brake pads have resilient shims on the back, so they don't benefit from DBQ. After the brakes are bedded in well (500-600 easy miles), get going about 45-50 mph and stop hard ("panic stop") several times. That should remove the glaze and quiet them down. If it doesn't, try cleaning them thoroughly with CRC BrakeKleen or something similar. If still noisy, your deale may have to dismantle and deglaze them. They could have been broken in too hard.

My SE5 has always sounded clunky going into 1st at very low speeds. If you downshift into first at higher speeds it sounds the same as all the other gears. Seems normal, I have heard some others and seem the same.

As you come to a stop the downshift to 1st doesn't get the throttle blip like other downshifts. That can make it sound and feel a bit different. Should not be a concern.
