• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RS Windshield options

I get it. A lot of folks have had issues with the F1... I took a risk and bought one used. I am happy. The Madstad was my next choice and may later down the road.

Never meant to imply one is better than another. That is for someone else's personal choice... I like this model design wise because of where I live and that I choose to ryde rain or shine. This shield protects my body better from the rain than the Manstad I had in mind ever will.

I guess for anyone to make a choice they need to consider the job they have in mind for their windshield. So for me... I looked hard for an F1 because I knew the Madstad would not do everything I needed it to do. :2thumbs::doorag:

I agree...it's a personal choice, but don't assume the Madstad wouldn't protect your body...it adjusts in more positions, and that means not only up and down and angled out a little..it can be moved closer and further away...I have emailed Mark several times and from what he has said and from what others I've spoken with have told me, you don't always need a larger shield to protect you...sometimes angulation and positioning do wonders...

Either way, if you have what you like, you're good to go. It's great there are many options out there for us...the more, the merrier!

Totally agree with that! I hated how big the RT windshield was... Far to big and caused more drag than protection needs had been.

For us it was not necessarily the width... But the little wings and height. With no one local (That we have met yet) we kind of felt we had to go the "Safe" route the first time. And we had been vacationing one year and had to go through Kansas... And of course it happened to be during a wind storm .... sigh... We came around an overpass... BAM... Windshield ripped right off. Took every bit of my skills and strength to not get taken out by the vehicles behind me and the new found wind that was trying to take us off the road :gaah::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray:...

We saw the mounting on the F1 to fit more of that warm and fuzzy secured feeling :ohyea::roflblack:

Either way Io appreciate your input. I hope to try a members Madstad one day in hopes of it working for my wife and I...

I made my own from an old Skidoo windshield, has a nice lip on it that works well for me,but I dont ride the Spyder this time of year.

Well, who told you to go through Kansas,, Dorothy? :ohyea::roflblack:

Anyway, there are several good options for shields...the F1 is popular, as is the CHAD and Madstad....the makers of CHAD always seem to have major issues, but whatever...some are complaining that their site has been down for over 2 weeks now...odd...anyway, Mark of Madstad is a quality guy always willing to help out...I like how he designed the brackets (that CHAD copied) and made them a lot better...

Like most other options on our bikes, we can always switch out and try something new. I still have the original touring BRP shield...it's too low and does NOTHING for me in regards to wind protection...when I get the Madstad, it will make a major difference...my head will likely stay on and I'll be able to retain some hearing when I get old!

Just be warned about anything from the F1 people--- they don't back up their products well after the sale -- and their shields are NOT made of DOT approved materials--- so they will shatter on impact. Marcel stiffed a lot of people on his 'RT fairings' too. Wouldn't give anyone affiliated with them a dime.

I'm happy with the CHAD, but also have a CALSI, GIVI and various BRP shields..... a collection. CHAD stays on all the time. Not sure what is up with them or if ESI is selling them still?

The Madstad is pretty neat, but a pain to adjust IMO.

The Madstad is made to adjust in more positions than the CHAD...the CHAD effectively stole Mark's design and made their own...however, Mark redesigned his bracket for more maneuverability.

As far as changing positions, the original Madstad (and still some models) have two knobs for easy changing (as does the CHAD)...however, you lose one entire movement plane by doing so...simple folk like me will likely not be changing the position of the shield all the time, so this shouldn't be an issue. However, when you do change position, you can do more with the Madstad.

They are both good shields, obviously...CHAD is having issues now too as it appears that several here can't get any service...Mark at Madstad is a quality guy and from my experience is always around for you. As far as your comments on Marcel, I have never bought anything from him but I have seen too many threads here with complaints...certainly not a quality merchant like gloryders or ESI...

I haven't bought a shield yet but when I do make an upgrade, I'll gladly get a Madstad...

I am not sure if the perfect windshield, matched with the kind of customer support/quality product has been invented yet. I for one am just happy there are at least a few options available than none.

That said as I am struggling with the RS windshield stuff, I appreciate the one BRP put on the RT a lot more now than when I had it :(:opps:.

I was actually thinking of getting the Madstad unit, and adapting the Kawasaki Concours power windshield/power unit from their cruisers as a project one day. And was frankly one of the reasons for me looking for an F1 now. Something adjustable but a tad wider was what I wantted. But not to wide to look un-appealing on this sexy ryde
