• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RS and ST now extinct: Future only F3 and RT

Well, I like to hug my bike, move around when going into turns.....
I like to stand up if I feel like it, I like to use my legs as shock absorbers sometimes.....

So you like many of us want to sit "On the Bike" rather than "In the Bike". BRP apparently missed that.

Those of us with ST's and newer RS's are just approaching the what bike next decisions. BRP has nothing for us.

And for those that continue to mention the 1330 vs 998's this is not about engines, its about riding style and handling.

I guess I'm glad I'm picking up my new to me 2014 RSS on Saturday. I have sat on the F3 and I just do not like having my feet out in front of me. It seems like a very nice machine just isn't for me. I have ridden an RT and although it is very nice it's not quite what I'm looking for and a little on the pricey side. Hopefully they do come out with something else at the lower end of the price range because I would imagine cost keeps some from considering a spyder.

Patti, and everyone else in Spyderland .......The F3 ...is the new RS ........Think about it, why would BRP keep a 6 year old body style AND then put the new 1330 engine into it. It doesn't make economic sense..........jmho.......Mike

Because, there is nothing like an RS in the Twisties and with a 1330, well it would have been amazing!!!

Since I'm not on Facebook for security reasons, I didn't see the video they posted.
I think BRP should have an intro model for the younger set.

Hi ingramwc,

Re: So as long as service and parts are available

Not to, hopefully, sound all gloom & doom, but this is what concerns me as the owner of a '08.

I have owned two 'specialty' cars that were out of production. It became harder & harder to get parts, of any kind, for them.

I just hope that in 2 yrs or so, BRP does not quit providing whatever parts that we may need.

Isn't there a length of time required; for the manufacturer to supply parts for discontinued vehicles?

I was under the impression that parts have to be available for 10 or 12 years. I think I heard that years ago.

are all of you guys forgetting that there's always something on the design table? :dontknow:

But are you forgetting that there are no new designs from the design table before next summer, Bob? :dontknow: ;)

Nope, it's a whole 'nother year to wait around to see if BRP does something other than the F3 and RT... grrrrrr.

BTW, as another resident RS champion in these parts: I'm bummed, but completely unsurprised, we all knew this day was coming. The only surprise is the small one, that BRP dropped the line without immediately replacing it with something new. While having four models in the stable was clearly too much for a niche vehicle, I'm not sure that dropping from four to two is a good look for BRP, my first impression is that it smells of brand *weakness*, and not confidence in the future of the product line. Particularly since we're back to a single engine model for the entire lineup-- a great engine, to be clear, but also an expensive one, i.e. the entry fee for Spyder ownership continues to remain very high for all but the most committed buyers.

Then again, I also wouldn't be surprised if BRP was running the numbers on the late-model Spyder market and realizing the obvious: it helps no one but the immediate consumer to have so many 2015, 2014, and older (!) "new" models sitting on the floor begging for deep discounts. BRP's completely hosed the resale market on Spyders from the beginning-- a new brand was never going to hold value all that much, but it's not going to hold anything at all when you can buy new bikes off the floor for the same price or less as a used bike. If the RS and the ST weren't selling through on the dealer floor, it was indeed time to drop them rather than continuing to bring out yet another model year to gather dust awaiting the inevitable mfr discounts.

This can't be true.. The dealer I went to today says no way the RS is his biggest seller...

Another issue: Dealers are always folding. There used to be three places here in the Anchorage area selling and servicing Spyder. The Anchorage area dealer dropped the line and no longer sells or services Spyders.

The Eagle River dealer went from "dealer" to "service center." When I went in for service this spring, I was told they did not have a mechanic to work on :ani29::spyder2:--but I could take it down the road to Wasilla to have it serviced.

The owner worked out a deal and he and one of his guys put the new tire on my 2014 here in Eagle River. With my health issues, the trip to Wasilla, jockeying transportation so that I can get back home while leaving the :ani29: for a day or two, and then the reverse--I am slowly getting not happy with the whole process. If the last remaining dealer decides to end it with :ani29: there wont be any place in the whole state to purchase or get them serviced.

Time is ticking and we will see what happens. :bbq::bbq:

If they introduce a starter model, maybe it will be at the 10th Anniversary. I was also impressed to see you can buy the backrest cargo as an add on for the 2016 F3s. I bet that is going to cost a pretty penny.
