• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I keep reading to keep RPM high on semi auto trans. I have a 2010 RT 998 manual shift, how do the RPM's play into that?

:agree: The SE-5s have a different engagement setup. Your SM-5 is perfectly safe at any rpm that you choose to use...
The "ESSIES" are disengaged; until they are engage by engine rpms.
The "ESSEMS" are engaged; until disengaged by pulling in the clutch lever.

(I think...)

 I think that they were supposed to be around 1200 rpm...
But it's been a while since I rode one... :opps:

the 1330s are down around 900 rpm.

Well....

The RPM's run about 1350 and will bounce up and down a bit. Pre set and non adjustable but the same on all 998 V-twins.
The manuals are controled by the driver so not a problem with maintaining the rpm's high but still performs best if you do. The semi-auto needs the rpm to fully engage the clutch and keep it from slipping.

Mine varies between 1350 & 1400 RPM. I try to keep the RPM above 4,000 so I don't lug the engine. Sometimes in traffic that is not possible.

Unfortunately I do a lot of in town riding. I try to keep the RPMs up, but it is hard in stop and go traffic.

Running rpm's vary depending on which engine.

For your 998: recommended is to keep the operating rpm's in the 5000 - 5500 range. That is the power range for that engine. For those with semi-auto, it gives smoother shifts when its time.

For the 1330: operating rpm's 3000 - 3500.

I let the SE's downshift on their own, 99% of the time.

Your gut should show you what to do
Unless your not familiar with vehicles at all
